My goal this week of keeping the coffee table and kitchen table clean got off to a great start Sunday night when I saw this challenge. In 25 minutes I not only picked up and put away all the misc. 'stuff' that I drop on these two hot spots, but also washed the dishes. Monday they stayed clear and right now there is only one thing on the coffee table to put away and a box lid to put on a decorative box that lives there. Today I plan to put away the metal Christmas tree on the coffee table and put something different on display in the center. Keeping those two areas cleared off impacts the public area of my house in a big way and also helps my mood.

Well done Inamess keeping those areas clean and looking nice We put all the stuff up the attic last night, DH couldn't find all the clothes I wanted, but found a couple of the things. Sorting the boxed clothes can be a job for another week The rest of the week now I want to take my magnesium supplement.

My goal this week is to explain to my parents, that I really do not want to spent the New Years Eve with them at their friends. I have a right to be unsociable and I really want to spend some time alone. I have enought of people during the year. I do not like this celebrations anyway and would go to bed, if it was not for the midnight fireworks that wake me up.
I want to spend my time at home cleaning my mind - tidying without having someone watching me.

Stand your ground, lucie ! Week 53/2015
This week's goal is ... ... to work through some of the library books I have at home. Sometimes I just need a few pieces of information, and it's ridiculous to keep more than 20 books at home! I can't actually return them because the library will be closed for a few days.

This week's goal is ... ... to go without sugar. It will be a short week because I consider the week to begin on Monday and I had a chocolate orgy this morning before I decided what the goal would be. I am not swearing off sugar for the rest of my life -- just this week -- and I am considering it an experiment.

My focus for this week is a medical procedure which will keep me occupied for a while. I will be fasting for two days so this the perfect time to look at my diet and make some changes.

Eatingbonbons, there's a medical procedure that requires 2 days fasting? Yeah, that would be a good time to think about what you're eating, once your system is totally clear. Bobolink, I should consider a sugar goal too--the amount I'm eating has crept up, and I know that when you eat too much and then try to quit you can get actual physical symptoms. I might add "decrease sugar intake" as one of my weekly goals. I keep seeing good ideas from you guys and adding them to my own list. I'm going to have trouble deciding what to start with next week. It was just a colonoscopy for cancer screening, dtesposito. The procedure wasn't until four o'clock today so that's two days of fasting. And I'm not interested in food now. I think I'll make myself a cup of tea.
I seriously need to eat well, and I need to find a way that I can make work. I think, bobolink that I would need to include dark chocolate. My brain is going to be miserable otherwise. I don't actually eat chocolate very often but I eat other sugars instead. So it makes more sense to just go ahead and give my body what it wants.
In terms of my home, I need to get the gift returns taken care of. Then I can get rid of the boxes and clear out the mess in my guest room.
This is a very good thread. This concept of short-term focus works really well for me. I did month-long goals last spring & summer when there was a lot of stuff going on and I was pleased with the success.
Lucie, I hope you have the New Year's Eve that you want.

Bobolink...Yes, it could very well take a few tries--sugar is hard. Eatingbonbons, I get why you're counting it as 2 days--I think if I had to do that I would have to make them schedule it for early morning so it would only be 1 day of fasting! I'm leaning towards my first week's goal being to do one procrastinated task every day. I have all these little things on my to-do list that I keep putting off because they're not urgent. It would be nice to get them done, even though they're not at the top of the list. I might still change my mind and pick something else, though. Diane

Two weeks ago I decided to reduce my sugar intake, starting with my coffee. I drink a lot of coffee and always used two heaping spoons in a large mug. I cut that in half and it's been fine. I can fit into a pair of jeans that were too tight all summer & fall. Going cold turkey has never seemed to work, I'll make it a few days and then binge so I though I would just cut down. I don't feel deprived and I'm nearly ready to cut down a little more.

The only household related thing I did today was to make a phone call re: gift returns.
Diane, I was actually a work-in. They helped me out so that I could get it done before the year ended and my insurance changed.
Last evening after the procedure, I had a cup of broth and didn't care for anything more. I still wasn't feeling hungry today. I found some fresh carrots in the fridge and cooked them for dinner. I felt like I needed to break the fast before I did get hungry and suddenly pig out. I hate the idea of eating like I've been eating the last few years.

It's late in the week but early in the year so my goal is to re-establish my daily maintenance routine by catching up on dishes, laundry and vacuuming as much as possible today and tomorrow.

I'm going to start with a home goal. Kid spaces are being overhauled this week, perfect because Dd and dss are both here and we have a bunch of new stuff to make homes for. Challenge complete! Dd sorted through all her stuff in 4 days! She tossed a large, mostly full bag of trash and chose the equivalent of an extra-large load of laundry to donate (mostly out grown clothes). Dss got his things somewhat sorted as well and also got rid of a few things. Between them they decided to switch dressers, Dd now has the open bins for her things and dss has her old dresser. I'm hoping this change will benefit them both and make keeping track of their clothing easier for them. The process was... difficult. Dd shows signs of hoarding tendencies and often needs to talk through the process. (She's doing great though, this was her 3rd purge in 8 months and included everything even the previous "too hard" things) Dss is chronically disorganized with zero attachment to objects or regard to ownership. I think we can all predict what happens when they try to work together. Hubby and I got the doors on dss's closet fixed and sorted or identified all totes and boxes we had stored there freeing up some extra space. In the past we tried having the kids share a closet and using the other for storage (extra blankets, toys/games for littler visitors, tools, donation box, etc) but it did not work well. (See the next to last sentence in previous paragraph). Now they have separate closets and a little storage is in each. I was less than impressed when it came time for dss to organise his toys. It's not his strongest area and it doesn't bother him in the slightest. I wanted to work on it with him but he has no interest. At least I can shut the door on it now. Their bedroom looks nice. Dss is thrilled with the well defined boy, girl and shared spaces and has barely left Boy Zone. Dd has already given me a list of tweaks she wants to make. Over all a complete success!
