BetsyMarie on getting all that stuff out. Ive done that too, acquire new stuff and still hold onto the old. Great job on passing along those pots. Today i put the 11 yr old steering wheel covers (never used, they dont fit) plus slipcovers for my car, also unused. License plate hanger, also brand new. New winter boots, never worn. Still working, wil, add to the list later.

Good work, Unswamping!
I'm doing mostly trash and recycling today. Though I did put a nice silvery tea bag holder into the charity pile.

I'm beginning to realize there are things that really are way past their prime that I've simply never thought about tossing. Of all options for dealing with things, 'throw it away' is very much at the bottom of the list. Growing up, one of Mom's refrains was 'Don't throw that away!'. I learned it well.
So today, I tossed a small cutting board that is stained. And a cheese grater with just the right shredding size, but had several broken pieces. Not a single person I know would consider keeping things in such a state. Maybe that's a question to ask... Would Mary or Sally keep something like this?

BetsyMarie i think those were great things to throw away. Great work n overcoming your early conditioning. I hear alot of that too growing up. I think thats a great question to ask "would _______keep this?" I think im going to start asking that myself. Decided that i will do a dropoff at the nice thrift store next week. I started going through the gardening stuff in my living room. I tossed a few things and put some new, still with tags stuff in the donate pile. Like a daisy shaped sprinkler head and a beautiful glass and metal birdfeeder.

If I got rid of half of my stuff, it would be similar to theirs. I have nice things, they have just been inundated by all the stuff 'too good' to get rid of. But I'm making progress.
I had to laugh when you talked about going through your gardening stuff... My immediate thought was 'oh... give it to me'. Then reality hit.

Hi I'm back. I got stuck a few months back on the kimono I had paid a lot for and was dithering back and forth about whether to keep or to donate it. I have had fits and starts, mostly bringing items in. Today I have turned over a new leaf (it's fall and there's lots of leaves, ). I was sad because the kimonono is white, meant for a wedding, and it was on my bathroom floor, getting dirty and dusty. Lack of self-care, loathing, regret, waste, you name it. Anyhoo, the kimono is going. This afternoon. Hold me accountable, please. I have three bags of trash. Recycling set for tomorrow (missed last week). I have purged the pantry of items in three stages. Found some condiments from 1995, hah! Better go, otherwise I get sucked into the internet wasteland. After drop-offs, I am going to the gym and do some more self-care.

Hi itsybitsy. Sounds like you are doing well.
It's difficult getting rid of something like your kimono. Is the deed done?

Honestly, no it's not, but it was an unintentional error on my part. I had trash in the very back as well as items for donation, and give-away bags and boxes in the back seat and a box in the front. I did the front, passenger back seat, then hatch. I was so focused on not donating the garbage by accident that I forgot to open the driver's side back seat and donate the clothing items that were in 3 garbage bags. Oops, I noticed it when I got home from the gym and saw them. Oh well, tomorrow for sure. Thanks for asking, BetsyMarie.

Don't worry about it. These things are very difficult. While discomfort is to be expected when getting rid of things, and errors, don't go beyond what you think is right. There will be other times ahead to progress. Good going on getting to the donation drop off. One of my jobs this week is to finally(!) take the pile of charity from the front entry to the drop-off. But first I will have to clean out the back of the car. Seems I just did that. Stuff just drifts in there.

I decided to start getting rid of books that I'll never look at again. To start easy, I decided to pick out 5 books from the back room, and 5 from the cookbooks. I collected 12 in all, plus a thick magazine. The mag and one 50 year old text book went into recycling. The others went into the charity pile. 5 cookbooks, and the others are mostly fiction, plus one garden book.
Books are one of those things I thought would be 'forever'. Once one came into the house, it would always be there. But that doesn't have to be the case. Too much stuff is too much stuff. It's not as if I couldn't find any info I wanted on the internet.

I have a gigantic dictionary, like really big. I got it at Costco maybe 25 years ago. I guess it was something I thought I should have - only I've rarely ever used it. It's unwieldy, and the internet has replaced it. But who gets rid of a dictionary? Well, I do. So into the charity pile this albatrose goes. I do plan to keep one that is much smaller, and easier to use.

Good for you, BetsyMarie, way to tackle the bulky books that you're not likely to read or use again. I used the opportunity to clean out my closet, given that I have to go back to the second hand store and I have three bags in my car ready to go. I also found I was avoiding putting away the laundry, because my closet was full. So, I've spent the last 2 hours going through my closet and not stopping until I had a spot for everything. Then I remembered there's still a load in the dryer and dirty clothes. Rather than getting stuck, I am going to bag up what is on the floor and donate. But first I had to eat as it was nearly 2.5 hours past my usual lunch time. Balance is not my strong suit. :-)

Great work on clearing your closet itsybitsy and for now getting hung on the fact that you didnt have all the clothes i should take lessons from you, ive been putting off closet clearing until all the laundry is done. BetsyMarie great job on purging books and that enormous dictionary. Thats hard to let them go but as you said, everthing is on the internet now. .

My main job today was filling the trash can. I took it into the garage and filled it 3/4 full, then topped it off with regular house trash. It's on the street now.
Most of what I tossed from the garage was junk, old and dirty, but some was stuff I ordinarily would have kept. Some candle making supplies, and some canned foods that I know I would never open, plus some past-dated soups.
I'm getting much better at this.

You are definetely getting better at this BetsyMarie. Its trash night for me tomorrow night but id like to get to work on filling up a bag, not counting regular trash. I did do a little purge of the car just now. So thats a start. Now to keep moving.
