Hi there, As I understand it, ads do not show when one is logged in? My browser automatically saves my password and logs me in, so I've never seen ads on these pages before. However, since yesterday, I am now seeing advertisements even when I am logged in. Just letting you all know. Thanks.

hey outfromundah - I'm seeing ads too. At first, I thought - hmmm, I never noticed these ads before. That's because they weren't THERE before! Thanks for pointing this out! pA

Thankfully they are for nothing I'd be wanting to buy, so no temptation there.. Glad they can't hook into my Amazon lists. Reminder to self "I DO NOT NEED TO BUY ANYTHING"

Reminder to self "I DO NOT NEED TO BUY ANYTHING" Oh my, I wasn't worried about being tempted. I never click ads on websites. That hadn't even occurred to me, as just seeing an ad isn't temptation, for me. It's just a little annoying, and I only wanted to bring attention to it in case it was a technical glitch, either with my account or site-wide. Yup, I'm aware of the fact that the people who can donate keep the ads from showing when members are logged in. However, I am logged in and still seeing them, and this is the FIRST time I've ever seen ads since I joined over two years ago. It might mean more donations are needed, but I also thought it might be a glitch, so I started this thread to call attention to it.

Admin i checked the link above. I also looked at the "gift" tab on my profile yesterday. Im a bit confused. If i donate, will the entire forum be ad free for everyone? If so, how much would the cost be per month. Thank you.

I didn't quite understand the donations process from that link. I can't really justify $6 per month. It seems to me that the last time we donated, Celeste handled everything and we were able to make a group contribution that kept us clear for a couple of years. Would you be willing to do this again, Celeste?

Would you be willing to do this again, Celeste? Yeah I think Celeste organized a donations thread, and members could donate directly to SOS, instead of going through the proboards bureaucracy. One of our admins, angelinahedgehog , used to organize fundraisers many many years ago (maybe on the old site). We called it a "hedgie-thon". Is it time for another one?

There are several misunderstandings here. I hope I can explain the situation so it is clearer to everyone. Actually, messymimi and I were the only members making monthly donations to ProBoards that kept the forum ad-free. I can no longer afford a monthly charge so I stopped this month. From now on, unless we get another patron or two, every month will be ad-free for half the month. After that, we'll start seeing ads again. If you are willing to make a regular donation of $7 per month towards ad-free, we will have enough to fund ad-free for most of the year. A one-time $24 donation will give us ad-free for those few months where we exceed our usual amount. The Stepping Out of Squalor "Hedgiethons" never went for paying for ad-free. It goes to paying for our chat room that no one is using anymore. I paid for the last 3 month extension myself, thinking I'd have time to work on adapting it to the non-Java platform, but now I'm not too sure anyone will use it. Yes, everyone will be able to log into it, but it will look and act very different from our Java-based chat room. I've begun to wonder if it will get used any more often than the current platform. Yes. I'm discouraged for a variety of reasons, mostly at myself for not being able to pay the money to keep the ads off, but also because I'm letting my disappointment in the use of the current chat-room set-up persuade me into not working on transferring platforms. I'm sorry. I'll get back to it. We'll hold a Hedgiethon once it is set up. You can decide then whether you still want an official chat room here at Stepping Out of Squalor.

Oh, Celeste. I had no idea. Somehow I thought I'd contributed previously. Just wishful thinking, I see. Thanks so much to you and Mimi for all this time you've been subsidizing us. I will ponder again about committing monthly. Right now, I'm off to meet the clean out pros but I'll respond again this evening. Thank you again. By the way, chat has been much busier lately, according to the grapevine. I get PMs from time to time. Later. I have to get moving.

Celeste and messymimi i had no idea that you were paying for us to be adfree. I cant thank you enough for that! You are the greatest. Many hugs and love! Celeste, i understand your frustration about the chat room. I think it has gotten busier lately and i know for me, its a really valuable resource. Im sure others feel that way too, i will let them speak for themselves.

i wish we could donate to a fund so that our COLLECTIVE donations would pay for this and we'd get ad-free for the lower rate. Celeste and Mimi have lifetime credit forever and ever. They should not have to pay one dime more. In fact, IMO, some of the funding should reimburse them. Even if we don't get the lower rate, it's still a bargain but when we donate a certain amount monthly, the cost of each $8 block goes down to less than $6 a block. We have how many thousand members? $1 donation from each member would cover us for years.
