Wow. Such creative ways to spend the next 40 days!
I came home and picked up a bag on the stairs. I put away everything that was in the bag. I then took the bag and picked up and threw away 40 things on the floor. Took thst bag and another small bag to the trash can.

I have been sorting through papers and tossing some over the past few days, but haven't been counting.
Our recyclables get picked up at about 5:45 - 6 AM every-other Friday morning about a half mile from the house. DH takes the plastic and cans out the night before. I try to take a cardboard box full of paper out early in the morning, but often forget or just miss getting it out in time, so I have a couple of months back-log.
I have been off from work this week. This morning I got up at 5 to pack up 2 boxes of paper/paperboard to take out. I'm a little OCD about how I pack the papers/paperboard boxes, so I consolidated 3+ boxes into 2. When I got back home I started a new box. I will add more to it today.
Some time ago I posted that I'd like to clean up at least 1 sq foot of space every time I have a day off. I forgot about that until just now. I don't want to make this a requirement on days that I have off. Over the past hour I have cleared a couple of square feet.

WAHOO - Everyone is doing well! We don't have to move a mountain every day. An anthill is fine. Because after 40 days we will be amazed at all that has been accomplished!

I'm joining the thread a little late but I did actually do what I want to do on my 40 day plan for the last three days. I want to get something out of my house every day. I have an overload of returns, speciality recycling, donations and items to ship or give to friends/family. I'm not going to count regular garbage and regular recycling from my daily activities like pet care and food prep. But it will count if it is the byproduct of cleaning out an area. March 1st - took out the garbage and recycling most of which was from cleaning out my spare room - lots of broken down boxes March 2nd - returned DH's clothing to two stores Today - returned some of my clothing to one store PC

I decided to report every 3 days--let's see how long I keep to that schedule...
Day 1 - 10 notes about books to look up from shoebox-looked up Day 2 - 10 easy discards--notes about websites, from about 10 years ago--obsolete! Day 3 - 5 difficult research notes from shoebox, 5 easy discards from files
This is fun!

Everypony!
Tonight I looked at the file folders--they had my "standing files" labels, plus three erasable ones. I labeled those, and was able to file all of the papers left in my tabletop file.
Then I got a metal "Industrial style" file box and put these files, plus my notebooks and pads in it. I think it will live on the purse shelf.
I am essentially making a temporary office in my DR until I get my office sorted out. And I hope it will morph into use in my office eventually.
The other big related thing I did was to get a big whiteboard out and write down all of my current projects and dailies on it--things I need to focus on before my trip.

Tossed out an entire contents of a plastic storage container full of of washable markers (That are likely nearly 20 years old!) In the past I would have held on to these... Tidied up the area around the couch/sofa. I'm going to keep work in this area.
ETA: Filled a kitchen sized trash bad with junk, and a medium box with paper to be recycled.
Worst thing I found so far: a can under the sofa had the remains of a mouse nest in it, which surprised me because we have a cat. Has it been there since before the cat? (5 years?) I don't know...

Today I did some virtual decluttering. I deleted all of the files that were written by other members of my writers group. I had promised to do that a couple of weeks ago, so that felt good.
I also figured out why a story I was working on was giving me trouble--I didn't want towrite about it. So I have sdispensed with that effort.
