Thanks, Celeste! It was kind of weird to post The Gratitude List with such a limited number, but I'm glad to know it wasn't just me.

just wondering if this will affect pictures we posted here from our personal photobucket accounts. is it going all money now? if so i will move my photos to Flickr. thanks, lioness, for starting the thread - i thought people's pictures were disappearing! Yes it will affect EVERYONE's personal photobucket's account, too, eventually. Photobucket is first hitting any photobucket accounts who do lots of "third party hosting" -- such as forum hosts (which includes Photobucket's special SOS smilies account) -- any photobucket accounts that are used with great frequency. But they will eventually catch up to ALL photobucket accounts, even small personal ones. They'll let you keep your images for free if you just show them to yourself and your friends via email. But if you embed your photos into any forum posts (or if you use a photobucket image as a forum avatar) ... the photobucket company will eventually notice and then complain that you are using them for "third-party-hosting" and then charge you money to see your images. If they catch you, they won't delete your images, but you'll have to pay to see them, and well ... yeah it's upsetting. If you are using a photobucket image as your SOS avatar, I suggest uploading the image directly into the PROBOARDS avatar program, which is a separate question I can answer tomorrow after I've had some sleep. -- creativechaos asked about using "Flickr". That's difficult -- more on that in next post.

Flickr is a fine place to store images, but we can't legally embed Flickr images onto proboards.
Flickr photos are designed so that they cannot be easily embedded into forum posts -- because Flicker intentionally makes it difficult to find the "jpg", "gif", "png", or "bmp" URL of the image.
And then if you find the image URL, if you want to embed the image inside a forum post, to obey Flickr's rules, you'd have to do it in a way that links back to your Flickr album. And that's extremely complicated, and it violates your privacy. Plus I don't think it can be done that way on Proboards.
If you embed a Flickr image without including a linkback to your Flickr account, you'd be breaking the Flickr Terms of Service, and per their rules, they could shut of EVERYONE at SOS from displaying any images on Flickr.
All you could do with Flickr legally is to post a link to your Flickr account and then tell people to go look at your account and then browse images there, but then you'd have to make your Flickr account PUBLIC, which is bad for us SOS members!

This photobucket situation makes me VERY angry (insert angry emoticon here). They are basically holding everyone's photos for ransom. Pay them $400.00 or you can't see your photos. Really. They did this with NO warning. It pisses me off because they did this with ZERO warning. They SHOULD have sent out an email saying "Notifying you that in two months we will migrate to a paid service. If you want to migrate somewhere else, you have two months to move your images before we start charging money." But they didn't. There was Nothing. Nada. Zilch. No warning at all. Just wake up one day and find all your images being held for ransom at $400.00 per year. I'm not exaggerating. Read here: www.aqueous-digital.co.uk/social-media/why-is-photobucket-holding-the-internet-to-ransomThat link says that that photobucket sent out a few emails from a weird marketing account that doesn't even look like photobucket, and all it says is "special deal" so it most likely automatically went to everyone's spam box. It's not a SPECIAL DEAL that you MUST suddenly give them $400.00 for something that's been FREE for decades. I'm upset because Photobucket's reputation has always been that they are one of the best places for FREE "third-party-image-hosting" in that they allowed billions of forums worldwide to hotlink to their photos for free. And now suddenly without warning they are charging money.

Maybe Martin Shkreli has taken over photobucket?
I wonder if they have tiny print somewhere in their terms of use that anything stored on the site becomes their property, otherwise I would guess there'll be some lawsuits.

In case you are wondering ...Photobucket has broken all the SOS smileys. They have a new system of charging money, which has caused this effect. This is happening with photobucket on forums all across the internet. Just posting so you know ... it's not you. I have messaged the SOS moderators so that they can decide what to do. EDIT to add: Script replied below that they are working on the issue. We haven't used Photobucket in years, but now with the changes, we're trying to get our content off, then delete the account. It's slowwwww.

Lion,
I'm really angry about it too and I don't even have an account with them. What they did is just rotten.

We haven't used Photobucket in years, but now with the changes, we're trying to get our content off, then delete the account. It's slowwwww. FYI, if you have your own personal photobucket account and want to save your own images from your account, there is a way to obtain and save your photobucket images, but it's tricky. Log into your own photobucket account, (if you can), and then select an album, and then download the whole album to your hard drive (or to a memory stick). If you have more than one album, repeat for each album. That way, you at least have your own images to save for your personal use, even if they won't let you use them to post images onto forums. I'd suggest downloading your pics to your hard drive AND to a memory stick (so you have two copies just in case). Tagging Celeste and Little_Ninja

Patience my behind - I am glad I did not have an account with them - in honor of July 4th I would feel like tar and feathering them I did make sure my Millan.net account was back up to date as I use the smileys to keep track of what I am doing and have done . Except there are no trash ones

If I had a smiley of the middle finger salute, I'd gladly display it now for Photobucket. Borrowing a term from my fellow Migraineurs, I will henceforth refer to Photobucket as Pukebucket.

Some people have mentioned millan.net as a source of gif smileys and animated gifs. Could someone explain that to me? How would I insert their gifs in a post here? Do you link to them somehow, or is it a matter of downloading them to my PC and them uploading them into a post like any other photo? Are their free gifs able to be used here, or do you need to pay for their 6-month membership? Thanks for any info!
If it's a matter of uploading them as for photos, is that going to impact the performance or cost to run SOOS, if many people start using them?
