Hi I have set up an imgur account, and added pictures to it. I have them set to "hidden" on there. I tried to post some on the photos board here, but it won't let me. I am guessing I will need to set them to "share" on imgur, but I don't really want my hoarding/squalor photos to be viewed by the whole imgur community and beyond, I only want to share them on here. Has any one else on here been using imgur to share photos on here and could give me any advice please? Or are there any other free photo-hosting sites that will allow you to post photos on a message board without making them public on the hosting site? Thanks.

You don't have to share with the community. There is a place where you can do that. After you upload a photo, there is a box to click that reads "Share to community". As long as you don't click on that, it won't be shared to user sub. However, if you don't share it and someone knows your profile address, they will be able to see the photos. That being said, I have loads on Imgur, and no one has said anything to me. Either no one has found it or no one has been bothered enough to call me out. Fair warning if you haven't noticed yet, Imgur's community can be a mite toxic for some people. It's why I finally left after nearly four years. Can't remember what the breaking point was.
ETA : That being said, I use Photobucket. I'm fairly certain all my photos are private, and I believe they're still able to be viewed on here. Might give that if a shot if you're still concerned.

My photobucket pix are all gone from here AND from my blog--from about 2010-2011, I used photobucket to upload pix on my blog and now they're all gone. PB wants to extort about $400/year to enable sharing to other sites.
I would be super-interested if you know how to share without paying!

Hmm. I was fairly sure I shared after they enacted the rule for the bigger accounts that host (the reason we lost all our smilies). Maybe I'm wrong. I'll hop onto the photos section and see if I can find the post from the last time. ETA: Apparently I was wrong. I really thought I had, but I guess not. Unless the post was deleted because the images were gone anyway, but I doubt that. There was a nearly 8-year-old post whose photos were on photobucket, but I know that's been deleted. There was an update about that in a thread a bit before they deleted old posts that had photos. That's boloney that a regular individual who may use it for sharing all of 10 photos has to pay that much, especially when there are still free sites, such as Imgur. Ugh. i'm probably going to have to start using Imgur again.

Thanks for the info.
In 2010 & 2011 I used PB; since then I've been able to upload pictures directly from my hard drive or Google drive to my blog. Can't do that here--but what I did to get my avatar to show was upload it from my computer into a years-old blog post and link it from there. I think in the future I can upload as many pics as I want to that same old blog post and link them here or elsewhere.
Yeah, if photobucket had been reasonable--say, a $25/year fee--I might've paid for the convenience. But *hundreds*? Nope.

Photobucket will be charging EVERYONE the same ridiculous fee. They are cracking down gradually. If they haven't caught you yet, they will eventually. Photobucket hasn't caught me yet either, but I've downloaded all my pics to my harddrive just in case. Ninety percent of my photobucket images were smileys or pretty images to cheer people up. Whenever Photobucket finally gets around to catching me, then a great deal of my thousands of SOS posts will be full of those "3rd Party Image Hosting" warning boxes from photobucket. Details about photobucket here: takeonestepatatime.proboards.com/thread/29957/smileys-broke-image-warning-photobucket

I don't know how that's going to be sustainable. Maybe... maybe the owner of a forum could afford that nonsense and would find it worthwhile. Maybe. But not the average person, especially as there are other options for free. /smh
That being said, most of mine on Photobucket are old squalor photos that I don't really care about. I think the rest are wedding photos that are already saved in, like, three different places. Maybe more.

IMO flickr is still the best "free" site out there, although it was bought with the sale of yahoo to Oath (AOL) and who knows what awful changes will be coming, as far as sharing photos goes? Seems they all want money now, which will make it impossible for lower income people to share photos to other sites. on flickr, you were able to keep some albums from the Public and some albums public. i think you could share the "non public" pics here on sos. will have to check because they just limited storage on free accounts, and they may be making photo sharing NOT free anymore. will edit this reflect findings when i know something.
