dayeanu, in my experience motivation is all about dopamine, so whatever you can do to fuel/trigger that neurotrasmitter will help!

Welcome back to the fold, Daye. Glad to see your ADD/ADHD has been diagnosed and you're getting help with dealing with it. Your post and many other posts following it are very descriptive of my daughter. She says someone told her when she was at primary school that she had ADD, but she was never prescribed anything for it.
I Googled ADD and housework and came upon this, amongst other things: thefrisky.com/10-life-changing-cleaning-organizing-tips-for-people-with-add/

I'm Baaaaaaaack! Again.
Nothing has changed in the living environment.
I'm on my ADHD meds and they do help, some.
I think nearly everyone who has this clutter/hoarding problem has ADHD! (I could be wrong.)
ADHD is a complex issue. Unregulated living. That's what it is. Unregulated focus. Too intense here, not long enough there. No time sense. If I think it will take 5 minutes, it will take an hour. Unregulated emotions. I found out why I cry so easily - one major symptom of ADHD is emotional flooding. Unregulated emotions. Depressive thoughts can seize and take over my brain on a perfectly lovely day.
My memory is still bad, but they assure me it's ADHD focus and not dementia.
And TBH, it's not as bad as it was pre-medicine. But it's still frustrating.
I'm less depressed on the ADHD med. More relaxed. Sometimes too relaxed.
I'm learning to recognize when ADHD is controlling me, and to take back control.
I just quit trying to do anything per cleaning up my environment. Now I'm starting starting up again. Not all out, but a bag of trash, and put one thing away. Baby snail steps.
I'm glad to be back. I'm glad to see everyone who is here. No matter how long I am away, y'all are embedded in my mind the whole time.
It's always hard to come back. I always feel like I have been a bad friend (I have been.)
But I know I need to be here.

Hi and hugs, Daye! I must've had a premonition or something (ha!). I haven't been here for a while. I just popped in and, voila! Here you are. It made me smile. "Baby snail steps" sounds like the cutest thing! Well, when taken out of YOUR context - ! If that is what works for you right now, that is great. Do whatever works for you right now. If something stops working as well, do something else that works for a while. It probably really is as simple as that, and might be a good way to work with ADHD. I am glad your meds are helping, and giving you less reason to worry dementia is a concern. I've missed you. More hugs!

Welcome back Dayeanu. I'm back to try again too, thinking of other possible dx that may influence my 'issues'. one step at a time. Its all I can attempt, and sometimes I do it. ADD /ADHD would be a given for me too.
