Good morning!
When I woke up today I thought it was Thursday, then I thought it was Wednesday, then I finally got it right and remembered it was Saturday. The good news is that today and next Saturday, my one walk is in the morning instead of the late afternoon--so when I come home I can stay home for the rest of the day. I wish this was a permanent change, but only for 2 weeks.
TO DO:
Finish breakfast Clean up from breakfast Put away dry dishes Put away dry laundry

Hi Diane thanks for starting the thread. I love that feeling of waking up and thinking I have to get work then wait.. no! It’s the weekend!!☺️
I had to drop DD at her school before 8 am for an all-day event; I’ll pick her up around dinner time.
So a whole day to work on our home. I have so much to do that I need to make a list to keep me on track
So far fed cats Put away clean dishes Washed breakfast dishes Started a load of laundry - dd’s Comforter
One grisly thing: I found a dead rat in my driveway!!! I don’t think I have ever seen a rat in “real life.” My cats go in and out and both are hunters so I am used to finding the dead prey:( but never a rat, I am guessing that is what happened?!
I am in an “eek” state. I was hoping a bird of prey or other animal would take it away.
It is near my neighbor’s house and she has a woodpile. Wonder if it was there. I know rats are not only children. But boycat could have caught it and carried it home.
Any ideas on how to dispose of this poor animal?

Magda, that's amazing that you've never seen a rat around before, they are common here. To be honest, I have no idea what the city would say if I called and said there was a dead rat and I wanted them to come pick it up--they might send a city truck, I have no idea. I know with animals like bats, our city wants us to call instead of touching because of the possibility of rabies. I don't think they find rabies in rats very often, but it could be that your local government wants you to call, so you could look that up first--especially if rats are so rare where you live!
If it were me, I would put disposable gloves on (if you don't have them I would put plastic bags fastened over your hands) and take with a couple of plastic bags--pick up with hands inside one bag, reverse and close bag and put into second bag, tie shut. Put in garbage can than follow with gloves/bags from your hands. Then wash hands.
But that's me. Here, a dead rat would most likely have been poisoned by city poison, or hit by car. If it was killed by poison, I wouldn't want it around my cats or dogs.

Hi Diane I know rats are all over! But I cannot ever remember seeing one! Even when I lived in a major world city I never had any encounters. Your plan sounds good. I don’t want my cats to pick up any diseases from it. I was wondering if someone poisoned it and it died here, but with a successful predator like boycat — he is the main suspect. I don’t share the sad details but boycat has hunted large game - based on his size. The rat is just being who God made him to be so I feel sad he came to an end but I have to be practical. On a very practical detail it is so cold here, the cold will help slow decomposition😮
I folded and put away laundry Moved wash load to dryer Started load 3 Did some pick up in the kitchen Put Halloween candy together in one bowl

You are right magda, it would be a much more unpleasant job if it were 90 and humid right now.
When I worked at the cat shelter the back of the building had a long back porch that had half of the underside closed in--apparently a stray cat died under the porch one summer, and the guy who was in charge of maintenance (6 feet tall, muscular, big strapping guy) came to me and whispered "I tried to go under there but I'm afraid I'm going to be sick, I have a fear of dead things!" So, I had to crawl under the porch and clean up, I won't go into gory details either but the cat's body had been there a while. There is always the "sad" factor with a dead stray or wild animal, but I'm not squeamish at all so that part doesn't bother me. It is something you have to get used to with repeated exposure, though, and in our current society where we hide the details of death, most people don't have that opportunity.

I'm going to have to pull all my plant stuff out from under the table in the plant room, it's a big mess with various partial bags of potting mediums and other things. I guess I'll add it to my project list, I don't have enough time to do it before my walk.

Oh Diane- sad story! I am squeamish to an extent but I do have to clean up cat hunting aftermath rather often, so I just do it. I just think no one but me is here to do this. So do it. But never a fav task -I don’t know if I could have crawled under the porch ...

Ohblondie, so that means you can come home for the rest of the weekend?
I'm back from my walk and have rested my feet for a few minutes--the forecast says a high of 50 today but it seemed pretty cold out, maybe it won't get warm til this afternoon. I'm so happy that walks were switched today, I can now stay home for the rest of the day.
TO DO:
PEEP computer desk Start load of laundry Go through one drawer 10 minutes on books

So--as soon as I started looking up some books my internet went out again! So I decided to have lunch instead. It's back now, but who knows for how long--I'm going to try to get the book research done while I can.
