Hey! I just found this forum and have recently been getting support from Reddit. I grew up in squalor and a really traumatic childhood so cleaning for me is linked to trauma and it’s hard. I’m working with multiple therapists after almost being evicted and criminally charged a year and a half ago due to squalor. My house is a mess and I’m cleaning now (I cycle between doing nothing and then doing long 36 hour cleaning marathons). I really need to change this and I’m just tired of it all. Thanks for having me!

Welcome to the group runningfromchaos I had cleaning marathons also for a long time ..sometimes I still do it. I've learned from being a member here that it is so much easier to clean up along...run like a well oiled machine. Still I struggle with this, but I get up and begin again each new day. It's hard to change. All my best wishes go out to you.

Hi running! Welcome! many of us have done the cleaning binges/ stash and dash then deal with "where did I put that stuff?" for weeks and months afterward. Routines and habits and maintenance is the answer. unfortunately maintenance is boring. Linking the needed activity with something fun or a reward afterward is one way to keep yourself on track. When my kids were little I had a cleaning lady come in every two weeks, that helped a lot! Share any particular challenges, check out the threads on listzilla and see if posting there would help. Welcome! glad you found the forum and hope it helps!

I have found the following helpful : - baby steps - little forays into the 'what is needed', attempting to get some routines in place, survival skills in terms of self care, (need food, water, shelter, clothing, hygiene) 'the 3 Ds - dinner, dishes, duds' (food prep) (the washing up - dishes pots etc, kitchen functional so food prep can happen) (clothing/laundry/washing) encourage yourself for every little thing you do get trash/ waste out the house regularly a waste bin in each room work on my personal attitudes and beliefs helpful - rinse and repeat. start over as needed. That's what I need to do most days if not everyday. Sometimes I get more enthusiastic on tossing things out, clearing a space, cleaning … Please post some more.
