Happy New Year and new decade! This is Working in Threes for January 2020. The guidelines for WIT are simple: - Do some little thing to make your house less squalorous. ☝️ - Do one more little thing. - Do another little thing. - Once you have 3 things done, post them here! - Post the next 3 things you plan on doing. - Go forth and conquer, return and post again. - You aren't required to do the 3 things you had planned on -- just get any 3 things done and then post proudly. Remember - if you are tired or sick or injured or depressed or overwhelmed, or just need to break your tasks down into something manageable, you are in the right place! If the next 15 minutes consists of: - Looked at hopeless living room and felt like crying 😢 - Decided you could take empty pop can to kitchen - Put away book 📚 - Picked up fast food wrappers on coffee table and put them in trash . . . YOU HAVE ACHIEVED THREE-DOM !!! You could post: Ta-Da's - Took pop can to kitchen - Put away phone book - Threw away McDonald's wrappers Then your To-Do's: - Bring plates and glasses to kitchen - Put dirty socks in hamper - Bring folded towels to linen closet and put away. Whether you do those 3 to-do's, or something completely different, once you've gotten 3, come back and post. Remember to take breaks and drink water. Drinking water counts as a Ta-da! If you can notice what the person before you did, it might cheer them up to hear from you. Go forth, have fun, and be generous to yourself with the Ta-das. YOU DESERVE THEM

Thanks missjean for starting January's thread. 1. Took cups from living room and washed them. 2. Made bed (albeit messily but still, win!) 3. Opened window to air out bedroom. 1. Isn't really to do with decluttering, but I feel like today is a day where it needs to be included in the list. SHOWER! 2. Remove 1 bag of rubbish from the living room. 3. Put all food from living room in cupboard if appropriate, or throw away. All the best for everyone, I hope 2020 is kind to you all.

Happy New Year and Happy New Decade missjean BetsyMarie, You are getting loads of stuff accomplished I haven't made it here as often as I would have liked over the past year or two. but I hope to do better. This morning was rough. I had a very long day yesterday. Usually I'm a light sleeper, but I slept right through the fireworks and gunshots and all the other noise. (Yes, I live in a rural area and people shoot their guns into the air at midnight around here.) Still this morning, I didn't want to get up, but finally did... ta-das: I loaded up the dishwasher and then ran it. Brought in empty birdfeeder and cleaned it. Hung another birdfeeder out. I might have to switch back to the other, because I don't think the slits for the seeds is big enough in the one I hung out. Not much else has been accomplished, except I cleaned up a huge mess that happened when a 3 qt/liter container of cooked green beans that slipped out of my hands as I was taking it out of the fridge. to-do: Go for a walk, get some fresh air, check on the mail, I don't think it got it yesterday. Check on chicken coop. Collect eggs, food in feeder? etc. Empty the dishwasher

Hi everyone!! Happy New Year to all! I have 5 days off from work, finally. Hope to get some stuff done. Got super stressed about something, so that has deflated me a bit. But I still have high hopes for these 5 days, so going to force myself to get started.
TaDa: 1. Got dressed to the shoes. 2. Took kids out for NY lunch. 3. Opened the blinds and showed up here, even though I just want to crawl back into bed.
ToDo: 1. Find nice audiobook or podcast to listen to. 2. Change kitty litter. 3. Load dishwasher.

Happy New Year! Thanks for starting a new thread, missjean! Just jumping in again, with gratitude that this board exists, and for all you excellent WITty people for being here Ta-da: Rolled outta bed at uh, 2:30 pm after watching obscure holiday movies on DVD all night and overindulging in food and drink and just same old insomnia Changed into shorts and tee, aka cleaning attire Fed cats/fat cat meds To-do: Take the trash out for pick up while it is still light outside. Big plan for rest of day/evening is this: De-squalor the kitchen. It has devolved over several months and time to address it! Main problems are piles of dishes that have sat for months and "shop n drop central" on floor around and under kitchen table, as well as fridge needs a purge and to be wiped out...well I will just add all the tasks as I get to them! - put on music - set timer - get moving

Nice to see so many folks working here today. I have been too lax this past year checking in. But it's been a good year and I have made progress. But this year I want to make more. One of my goals this year is to be more consistent and prevent back-sliding, which I am very prone to do. As I mentioned elsewhere, the term 'maintaining' means nothing to me ... perhaps because I;ve never really been there before. But backsliding I know well. Fortunately the past few years I have not returned to ground zero because I have learned much. So now, instead of using the word 'maintain' (a totally foreign concept) I'm working on 'not backsliding'. That I can grasp. Being too familiar with the concept, that I can understand. That I can work on. So, this morning, after having people over yesterday, I worked on 'not back-sliding'. And cleaned up the place from yesterdays nice meal. And the public rooms look good again. Someone could knock on the door, and I could let them in. Done: -dishes washed and most dry ones put away, sinks drained and wiped -counter wiped down after preparing lunch, lunch dishes washed -fireplace wood holder put in place and filled with wood. Looks stream-lined. Looks right. ToDo: -Make an appraisal of what needs more cleaning in public rooms -Since this is the day after having company, and the angst of getting ready for them, I want to take the time to relax and do fun things -do some 'pick up' in back bedroom/bathroom.

Sigh. Still sitting here and got majorly distracted by...finding out a marathon of a favorite old sitcoms is going on all day I've decided to use that as a reward...also it's not like these shows are not going to be on, as a matter of fact, 4 episodes will be on every weekday at 9 pm...it's just my brain...instant gratification... To-do: Work in kitchen for 3 hours, then enjoy some old shows

Wow, Razy, You're a day ahead of us already! Crackers and meringues? You sound adventuresome! I don't believe I've made either!
ta-da: Went for walk, got yesterdays mail for elderly neighbor, and myself. Collected 2 days worth of eggs (I only have 2 hens now, so that amounts to 3 eggs) Fed the chickens, Emptied the dishwasher Started making some split-pea soup. (It was something I always thought was disgusting when I was growing up, but learned that DH loved his mother's version, so now I make it a couple of times every year. This is my first time attempting it in the pressure cooker. Usually I make it in the crock pot.)
to-do: Close up the chicken coop for the night. Take a shower Get some things ready for work tomorrow.
Fun stuff. I am going to try to work on a genealogy puzzle tonight. My mother's grandfather was born in Sweden. We know who his mother was, but the father is listed as unknown. A few years ago, I had the mistaken idea that if I did a DNA test on my mom it would settle this quite easily, but I learned that it is really more complicated. A recent DNA match in Sweden, is also a match to my mom's brother and 2 cousins that I have tested. I am going to try to compare his list of ancestors with my mom's list and see if we can find the common ancestor. It's tricky in Scandinavia, because they generally did not use surnames. I think I have 6 or 8 ancestors named Anna Andersdotter, and they were not necessarily related to one another. Same with Anders Andersson. I also have Lars Olsson alternating with Olof Larssons alternating through the generations. Those -son and -dotter names become really confusing.
