Welcome, All, to a wonderful SOoS Tradition: the 2020 Things thread! The goal: to get 2020 items out of our homes by the end of 2020 The method: that is up to you!
You might imagine that 2020 things is a huge number and that only those with the worst hoards could manage it, but I've got a secret for you:
Even if you don't have squalor, or behavior recognized as hoarding, you might have enough extra stuff to do this challenge too. Lots of people have "clutter," even if there is room for it in your home.
You might also imagine that 2020 things is WAY too many to consider, but let's do the math: That's just FIVE AND A HALF THINGS A DAY! That's it! Five things one day, six things the next! (And seven things once a month, or so.) 2020 divided by 52 weeks = 38.84 You can toss 40 things in a week! Or even a weekend. No problem! and as long as I have my calculator out, I'll do the month (but it's a bigger number, so you might want to skip this one) 2020 divided by 12 = 168.33 Past participants have counted every little thing, or counted boxes or bags of things.
Some of us count papers by the sheet or inch or bundle.
We've counted trash, donations, gifts, and the release of habits, weight, and even people!
Jump in when and how you like, or just drop in to cheer us on.
Everything we get rid of is a great accomplishment, even if we miss the mark.
Won't you join us? You've got nothing but clutter to lose!

YAY, I'm in! Thank you mylittlescholar for kickstarting us right on time! Arriving at the doorstep with 1060 items already in the bag! (Explained in today's post in the 2019 items out thread.) I am determined to meet and match 2020, 2021, 2022...at some point (nevermind that I will actually be thousands of items behind...I'm doing this MY way! ) I will hopefully post more often as I tend to forget what I've cleared out and then just come up with a lump sum, always on the low side! 1060 items and counting.... Oh! Here's one right here on my desk! Last year's desk calendar...into recycling. 1061 items out! Let's all do this thang! One item at a time...watch them amass and watch them disappear! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Let's get rid of some burdensome items this year and clear some nice clean space!

OK so I just tossed about 20 items in the trash. I could do this when I remember to do it ... items OUT. That means trash, recycling, donation items that actually go out the door. Hmm. Maybe if I didn't get hung up on being accurate. There's not going to be an audit So, 20 items down, 2000 to go
Friday: Got rid of the suitcase: 21 down, 1999 to go Saturday: bag of shredding, drawer, box: 24 down, 1996 to go Sunday: cardboard box, bag of shredding: 26 down, 1994 to go (If I were counting by the papers, I'd be in the hundreds. But that would slow me down. So I'm counting what I actually put out)

As a brand new member and long time guest lurker (I followed from the original site) I have finally worked through enough of my emotional baggage to be counted, be seen and do the physical work. I'm nervous, excited, desperately seeking calm and peace and yet dreading being accountable. I will have challenges as I have ADD and chronic illness, but am prepared to just keep starting again even if these derail me short term. 2020 items seems like the perfect place to start for me. Happy New Years everyone!

Yay!! 2020 is such a melodic number. I decided not to count my digital clutter, except as “1 batch of emails deleted.” I will, however, count each and every photo I toss while sorting and organizing the tote boxes full of photos. 2 CPAP filters 1 scrunchie 1 dried up bottle of Elmers glue 1 2019 calendar 1 tiny bow 1 tiny box 1 handful of tape and labels 1 bottle of white shoe polish 4 cardboard boxes 1 medicine box 1 set of instructions 4 plastic wrappers 1 empty Tylenol bottle with lid 2 empty bags of cough drops 1 plastic inhaler mouthpiece 1 makeup package 1 inhaler spacer 1 inhaler box from 2013 1 bottle of pills 💊 I refuse to take 1 handful of salt and pepper packets 1 rubber refill strip from an old eyelash curler 1 worn out makeup bag...a Dollar Tree purchase from >10 years ago. Trust me. It’s worn out! 2 wigs 1 plastic wig holder 2 headbands 2 mesh nets 37/2020 Getting the year off to a good start
