I did it! I went to my appointment yesterday! That's not all! I rescheduled my appointment with my rheumatologist because I didn't get my blood work done yet. I also now have an appointment for my very first mamogram! I'm a bit nervous.

Well I had my eye doctor appointment yesterday. The rest are within the next few weeks.
Was a rough appointment. The assistant commented "wow your prescription is really strong, you must have really thick glasses". I was hurt and angry and wanted to say, tell me something I don't know bee-yotch. I was going to tell the doc what she said but he said the same thing. I know my vision is bad and getting worse. But don't rub it in.
Then he dropped a bombshell diagnosis on me, told me to each spinach/kale to help slow it down then walked out. With a "see you in a year' I have a gazillion questions.
But but but, I am so thankful I went to see him because he was thorough and I am not sure a chain vision center would have caught this. Well they didn't catch it, I was there a year ago.
I don't really want to discuss the dx....but needed to vent and be thankful. !! I hope next week's appointments go better

wtg on facing that news concerning your vision, ohblondie - glad they caught the issue and you know what to do and are grateful. you'll learn more as you go. hoping for the best for you.
WTG on getting medicaid, casper - it's great - i finally have insurance that will actually cover things! kudos to everyone else who faced appointments! i tend to "forget" them even when they are on the calendar.
i faced the fear of getting a referral to a vascular surgeon (have had the clogged carotid artery diagnosis since April of last year!) - finally chose one after my nursing friends kept yelling at me to take this seriously. still waiting to hear and will call and follow up next week. insurance may not decide to cover the surgery so i am also trying to do other things.
i need to talk with my pdoc about the ADHD - afraid to take stimulants due to the blood clotting and plaque in arteries situation... so... may decide to go see the Chinese doctor and see what he can offer. sick of AMA doctors who don't believe in Integrative Medicine!
i also finally asked my LAME primary care doctor for a referral to a dermatologist for a problem that has plagued me for 10 years and getting worse and worse. so soon i will have some mainland appointments to plan and attend - big ordeal when you live on an island and rely on public transit. but i'll do it because you all give me courage to follow through.

ohblondie do you have access to an academic medical center with an ophthalmology center? Maybe try to get in there? I have found the medical system overall is content to get people to the lowest level of health and move on. We have to really fight to get the best care and that is even true if we have good insurance.

sidestep thanks for starting this thread. I had an appointment last week(mammogram) and one today, doctor check up. I need to make a dentist one next. Just writing down here is a big motivator. Thanks to all for the encouragement and accountability. ohblondie I am sorry those health professionals were so unprofessional and callous. I hope you can find helpful information on line.

doodles....WebMD is the best and worst!!! But at least what I am supposed to do for all of my health issues is pretty much the same thing.....thank goodness. Eat leafy green vegetables, cut down on/eliminate refined carbs, eat nuts, keep cholesterol under control (as well as my "sugar levels", exercise......

Hi all Thanks sidestep for starting this thread. I had a follow up appointment today about something that could have been bad but wasn't so I'm feeling very thankful, both in general and for this thread in particular for prodding me to make these appointments. Next the dentist and another health test!
