Hiya everyone, I'm bunnyphoenix..I've been here off and on since 2008.. There have been times when I've been able to maintain my house but it's getting out of hand again. Who am I kidding it has gone to hell in a handbasket for a bit now... We had some big struggles his us in the past 2-3 years, some that needed to happen to open our eyes and get us to make some life changes, and others just sucked. I want to get control of my house so its not going to pieces around me..clutter and dirtiness make me even more depressed and then I just get overwhelmed and don't end up doing much of anything at all. I also want to start setting a better example for my kids, so that they do not think this is normal and end up in the same cycle as adults with their living spaces. I have tried to find lists online to help me break down steps but it never fails that those are for people who arent actually living in messy houses because baseboards and cleaning blinds are so low on my list of need to do's that it's not even funny..So here I am again, depressed and overwhelmed but going to push through and get this under control.. Sorry for the rant, neighbors partied from 10pm to 530 am in their driveway so didn't get to sleep much I posted in the Working in Threes and will be hopefully getting some stuff done today

Hi, Bunny_Phoenix. I don't know you, but I saw you'd had a birthday, so hope it was good. Anyway, hope you're doing well, and I'd love to read more about how/what you're doing.

Bunny_Phoenix - welcome back! I know that feeling of reading lists, articles, or books, and thinking that those people just have no idea! I mean, you have to *get to* the baseboards before you can clean them! Here to cheer you on wherever you start!

"You have to "get to" the baseboards before you clean them." So obvious, simple, and succinct!

risenshine - sure, but I expect full credit and a steep royalty!
(kidding, if you can't tell ... )
This kind of thing reminds me of the friend who told me to throw all the clutter into a tub, clean the house, and put the clutter where it belonged. He was tired of hearing about it! This was when I had not one, but two, very full houses, both with squalorous basements, two garages, a storage unit, and an unfinished addition full of construction mess and stuff. So exactly where do I get the right kind of tub?
One of my favorite authors was Don Aslett, back in the 90s, I think. He said houses aren't hard to clean. It takes forever because you people have so much stuff in the way! He wrote Clutter's Last Stand, which is now what I call my garage. His book was a light bulb moment. I stopped trying to organize everything, and started getting rid of more stuff.

Ha-Ha!
Afraid you can't expect much in royalties since I plan on mostly slinking around in the members area.
I remember reading Don Aslett decades ago, though I don't remember which book I think he wrote several)! I loved some of his ideas. Of course, my situation was way beyond that level at that point. His books became part of the clutter. The one thing I remember is designing the space as clutter-proof as possible. Hanging lamps rather than table lamps so a table can be TOTALLY clear is one idea I remember. Hard floors was probably another of his suggestions.

risenshine - you did it! I'm so tickled! Aslett did write quite a few books, and I had a lot of organizing books in my clutter. I must have purged most of them, because I'm not seeing them now. But I kept Clutter's Last Stand.
