I received a lot of help from this group 2010/2011. I accomplished dejunking and and cleaning while dealing with a hoarding brother. He still lives with me.
I had major health issues 2012 until present. This has included cancer surgeries, chemo and radiation. I am currently doing well but once more cannot keep up with my brother's mess. My house has become messy and dirty. The roof leaks. The house floods and eventually will be torn down. I live off a rural dirt road on 16 acres but years ago gave up on maintaining the woods or pasture.
I don't have emotional attachments to stuff. Physical ability is a problem. I am 77 and my brother is 73. I am fairly active having eliminated most aches and pains with lifestyle changes. My brother however has no strength due to diabetes and advanced heart disease. I don't cook for him or share meals but I have resorted to doing his wash to avoid a home buried in his dirty clothes.
My goal is to get rid of most of my possessions and move to a condo or townhouse preferably in another state. I would like to clear this house out by 2021.
I hope for support and ideas when I stall in my efforts. Perhaps a Blog or Listzilla citing my day's accomlishments would help with accountability?
I hope I have some accomplishments to report in the very near future. Thanks, Gaylem

i am sorry you have to live with a hoarder, being one myself i wouldn't wish it on anyone. condolences. i hope you can get your own condo and live a better life where you get to just take care of yourself! congratulations on surviving all that you have, and for making lifestyle changes and reclaiming your health. You may find some information also in Children of Hoarders - they deal in actually living with "us" and probably have some good practical tips, but since you want to deal with ridding yourself of your own possessions, this place is a lot of help. many people here can relate to your situations and have similar struggles as you are having. you will find lots of work-along-threads, or you can start your own. welcome back.

Welcome back, Gaylem. That's great that your health is good at the moment after coming through the cancer journey and that you're planning to move into a condo, which will be much better than your present living circumstances at your age.
