I got a security warning when signing on this evening. "Spyware"? I wonder if it has anything to do with the annoying ads that pop up at the top of the page? Can anyone help with this? Thanks!
Annie

AnnieOkie, has it happened again?
What platform are you using? What security software do you have installed on your computer?
Have you recently installed or updated a program on your computer?
Some possibilities are windows XP Service pack 2, Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security, and there are probably others that I have not found.
I do not know if the ads themselves would have anything to do with this, so much as it being linked to your computer's security software settings.

I believe I have the Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security. It has never given me a warning before. Updates are installed automatically, but I don't really pay much attention. After I posted the thread, it gave me the warning several more times, then stopped.....not sure what to think. This is on my home computer by the way. Won't be able to recheck till this evening.
Thanks eagle.

This happened again this evening. Here is what my computer says:
"This warning opened because your Web Site Filter noticed that you have tried to open a potentially dangerous Web site, or that the Web site you have tried to open has attempted to redirect to you to a potentially dangerous Web site."
I wonder if it is the links that appear at the top of the page. Is there any way to disable those? (Ads by Google)

What browser do you use? If you use Firefox, you can get Ad Block Plus.

Oh, this is going to be a lecture then. You must NEVER be on-line, and be computer illiterate! There is no single greater danger to your security than not knowing what you are doing with the computer. That is like getting behind the wheel of a car and not knowing how to drive.
You need ... NEED to educate yourself on these things. Finding out what browser you are using is as simple as looking at the top and seeing if it has an IE or an orange and blue icon. Or going to "help", and checking the "about" link.
Seriously. There is TOO much computer crime out there for anyone to allow themselves to be blithely computer illiterate.

(-:
There, that wasn't so hard, was it? grin.
And do you have your system set up for automatic updates, so that all the patches that MS pushes out get loaded on your system every week? And do you have a firewall, and anti-virus software?
Personally, I wouldn't use IE, but that is me. I use Firefox. It is not as much of a target for malware, and it also has a lot of tools you can add on to stop things from having access to your computer. They also work right away to get vulnerabilities fixed, and there is no "once a week" schedule for that, it is done as needed.

Yes, yes, and yes. I just want to know if anyone here can tell me if I can disable the "Ads by Google" window at the top of each page on this board. I have a suspicion that is the culprit.

I just want to know if anyone here can tell me if I can disable the "Ads by Google" window at the top of each page on this board. I have a suspicion that is the culprit. You can't disable the Google ads because that is against TOS for the free boards. You CAN report the alert to ProBoards since they don't want their members to have security issues with the Google ads. Get a screen shot of the ad that causes the alert and send it to the Support Board here. The only other alternative is to have visitors pay for an ad-free board. That's $7 per month. That's not what you wanted to hear I'm sure, Annie, but those are the only solutions I've been able to find. Sorry.
