Hi everyone, I was on this forum for a while about six or eight years ago, I think. I was mostly lurking as opposed to really active but I learned a lot that really helped me. I'm returning because, although I'm in a much better space both in terms of my home and my mental health now than I was then, there's still a way to go. On a scale of 1 to 10 or whatever I definitely have *less* squalor and clutter, and that feels great, but I still have *some* squalor and clutter and I'd feel ashamed to have people over (plus, I literally can't find some of my possessions because there's clutter!)
A lot has changed since my first visit here. I moved out of that apartment and into a house. I did better at keeping the place clean immediately after moving in, because it was easier to make a fresh start in a new place. Now I'm backsliding somewhat, and I don't like it.
Like a lot of people here, I have issues with anxiety and depression, which had mostly been more under control thanks to some really good mental health professionals and a lot of hard work on my part. The pandemic has made them flare up a bit. I also have some physical back pain that can make it hard to lift and move clutter around for long periods of time. But I am trying to at least work at it a little bit at a time. I've set aside some stuff to donate to charity, and I've been throwing stuff in the trash, too. I really want to spend this summer and fall lessening the amount of stuff in the house, to make it easier to keep clean, and to just feel less cramped.
Anyway, I'm going to try to post here at least every so often to try to hold myself accountable. This weekend's immediate goals are to catch up on dishes and laundry, but I hope to at least make a tiny dent in the large amount of papers that need sorted, too.
Looking forward to learning from everyone here.

Good for you!! having a house, I swear, allows triple the stuff to be packed in, so you get a lot of credit for keeping after it, the enforced isolation of Covid is bugging me, and probably many here ,,choosing to be introverts is different then being forced to..and having injuries, older age, health issues keeps you cautious from being exposed. I hope you are enjoying you have a house, and privacy, and doing better on your clutter scale!! Keep posting please! I am back too after 2 years.

I'm late in saying this, but thank you all for the words of welcome! At the moment I'm trying to work on clutter over this long holiday weekend - it helps to know there are others who can relate!
