I'm a hoarder, yes. i love magazines, I have a stack of probably 50 womens magazines, from cooking, to gardening, Better Homes and Gardens, Martha stewart, etc. I hate to throw them out. I used to leave them at the local lau8ndromat. It was open 24 hours and had tables and chairs inside where people would hang out. Of course, given the Corona situation, it now has taken out the seating and it's only open certain daylight hours. so I can't leave them at the laundromat I tried a doctors offoce and they said they don't want them. Nursing homes aren't letting visitors in, so I'm out of ideas. Anything?

There are some thrift stores near me that take magazines. I don't know if the library still does. A used book store near me still takes them.
I have donated books and magazines to a church.
There are front-yard "libraries" here, which are cabinets on a post, with a glass door. People donate books and periodicals, and take what interests them. Those are still operating here.
Could be different in other places....

Jannie - maybe give yourself permission to put them in recycling while the virus is around. We have thrift stores taking donations again, but I'm sure people will be more reluctant to take used goods for some time to come. I've also had people sharing things in my neighborhood through a local online group.

THANKS for the suggestions.I came up with a possible solution. I am going to take my mags to the nail/manicure place I go. I think women customers might like something to look at when they are sitting in the chair for a pedicure. Or maybe they'll take a magazine home to read. I just want to get them out of my house without just dumping them in the trash.

I do something which is called "modified amnesty". . It is my internal justification to myself for getting rid of things that may still have some use but not to me. Like pads of paper with only a few left or a can/jar/bottle/carton of food that was opened but not liked. Or magazines. At the end of the day - the item in question final destination (hopefully) is recycling. So, if I can send it to recycling now - that's good enough for me. . If you have a source that allows for continued use - that is great. But if not, sending it to its final destination a little ahead of your desired cycle of use is OK. I just recycled 20+ bottles of wine - yes I could have used them for cooking or sangria. But I still have SO MUCH WINE. . And in the case of magazines - even if you still don't have a source - at least you know they are being properly recycled if you do it yourself. Otherwise, who knows what happens to them. I know it is hard to dump perfectly good things. I do feel your pain. I tried giving National Geographic magazines to a friend that is a school librarian. Even she couldn't use them. So, I do donate them because families with children may use them for art projects or something. PC

my sister just offered me a stack of magazines because she did not want to just recycle. I hesitated then said yes with the promise to myself that I will just recycle them when I am done. I won't save for recipes or articles or to pass on to someone else. Out to recycling they will go as I finish with them. So if your nail salon won't take them, I'd put them straight in the recycling bin.

I have gotten rid of quite a bit this way, and the best thing is I donät have to take the thing anywhere myself, just the parking lot. It's lovely to see how someone is beaming when they get those things that were useless to me.

The nail salon was happy to take my mags. Of course, i'm a regular customer, so maybe they were just being nice.
