Hi. My name is Heather, and I'll be 48 in a couple of days. I'm not much for New Year's resolutions; I'm more about first of whatever month/birthday resolutions.
I've reached an extreme point in my squalor, and I'm desperate to get back out of it. I will likely always have clutter, but right now, my little 900 sq ft apartment is infested with house flies, and my poor rabbit's cages are long overdue for a clean out. There isn't one room that isn't an obstacle course of papers or bags of mail or something else that simply doesn't belong where it is.
I've been suffering from respiratory issues since July, and while I know my home isn't the source, it obviously doesn't help.
I have wonderful friends, but only one of them suffers from the same issues, and she's the only one who knows how bad things really are. I'm terrified that if they did, they'd never speak to me again. My ex was in a couple of weeks ago, and he berated me and threatened to call the health department on me.
Having stumbled upon this community gives me a little glimmer of hope that I can't stick to my birthday resolution.
H

Welcome, Heather! There is a lot of help to be had here. You can start getting back your space and peace of mind. Ask questions, post on threads that speak to you, and dip into some of the blogs to learn how others started making progress. Hope to hear from you again soon!

Welcome Heather! I'm in a similar situation as you. Remember that your home didn't get this way overnight and it will take time to get it cleaned. This is a journey and every journey starts with a few steps. Be patient with yourself and take breaks as you need to. We are here to lean on each other, cheer each other on and to give gentle nudges to those that need them. We all can do this!!!

Hi Heather. . I'm glad you posted. I'll second what goldenthreads and _Linda_ posted. This is a place where we can find help and give support, to make better choices about caring for ourselves, and caring for the way we live. I find it helps me to post, and to read old threads. The posts here of experiences, struggles, and victories, the good company, and the support to take good steps, help me and give me strength. I wish you joy in taking good care of yourself.

welcome Heather! When you have pets, that must be a priority so start there and then work on your other priorities. My suggestion, make sure the area around doors is clear. then work on other areas. Share your challenges and you will get great ideas shared here, from folks who have dealt with the same problems

Hello lyradog11 Welcome to our community. We know all about our houses getting insanely out- of- control. So bad we wouldn't let our dearest friend in in fear of losing them. Good luck to you in beginning your journey to free yourself from clutter and trash and on to happier times. You deserve everything good so go for it!!
