I have stored my avatar on LJ in my scrapbook. Now how do I get it to show in my posts on this site?  ? Please give it to me step by step as the avatar I used on LJ was the first one I ever dealt with. Thanks. |

. For pegasus and others who have livejournal scrapbook photos they want to use as avatar: - 1) Go to your livejournal scrapbook
- 2) Find the photo there and rightclick to get its properties. You need the exact URL of your photo.
- 3) Come here to this forum, open your profile, and click "edit profile"
- 4) paste the URL of the picture in where it asks for it for your avatar.
~~~~ For those who don't have a livejournal scrapbook photo....What you'll need to do is go to a website that hosts online photo albums for people. One of them is www.photobucket.com There is one at www.flickr.com And there are several other large websites of this type. Check out those sites, and join one. Use a username for joining the site that you will remember. You might want to join with a username for your desqualoring identity. If you already have an account with them -- for things you'd publicly show friends and family ... then I suggest opening a different account with different username for your desqualoring stuff. Each account on one of those sites would need a different username and differently associated email address. That way if you tell your friends .. "log onto my photobucket site to see my beach vacation pictures" ... they won't accidentally see your photos of the messiness. Anyhow .... to get back to the point... - 1) Get an account with one of those sites.
- 2) Upload your avatar picture from your computer onto your online album at the photo website.
- 3) After it appears in your photobucket or flickr album, then go to the photo there and rightclick to get its properties. You need the exact URL of your photo.
- 4) Come here to this forum, open your profile, and click "edit profile"
- 5) paste the URL of the picture in where it asks for it for your avatar.

Hi Lioness
I keep copying my avatar url from photobucket, but it doesn't seem to work :-( It's the right size, I checked 'yes' on the "Show avatar" box, but. . .nada. It does work if I choose one of their little 'cartoon' avatars, but not for anything else.
What am I doing wrong??? Waaaaaah. Help!

I have tried several times to update my avatar but have not succeeded. Is there a size limit? Each time I save my avatar to a new location, the size changes slightly. Currently the height is greater than 100 pixels.

Earlene, it seems to require that your avatar be square. I tried posting a rectangular one and it skewed it to make it square, so then I made a new pic that is square and put that in my photobucket account.
Also see what krazykatLady said above.
P.S. I think the old network54 forums required a square avatar. You could try whatever you had there.

Sorry, the set-up for this board only allows for avatars to be linked by an URL and you will need to sign up with a service like photobucket or flickr, or choose one of the avatars that come with the board.
Sorry about that! Other than that, this board has many advantages and is user friendly. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Rennie! So Happy to see you on board!  Sorry you are having a tough time with DKitty's avatar. I hope that you will put her avatar up and enjoy using this site. I think that you will really like it here. The only diifficult thing so far was the avatar. I am not computer savvy, so had to get my DS to help me do that. I can't tell you how he did it because he did it soo quick! I wanted him to show me so I could help others, but he was too fast and in a hurry. I think there are instructions in this thread that sound good. Please try it. I think you will absolutely love it here! CD |

Sorry if I sound snippy....I've been dealing with the sudden death of a dear friend. Then I come on to find my online support group is leaving. Plus I'm an idiot when it comes to computer stuff. Plus I'm a strong believer in if it ain't broke, don't fix it and I'm still wondering why we have to move in the first place.
I really don't want to join photobucket or anything else. I have enough trouble finding my durn car keys....I don't want to have my message board at one site and my avatar at another and my photos at yet another.
Your board has NO cat avatars. Can you add one please if I can't use my own cat picture? Thanks. Again, I apologize but right now I'm a little upset about the death of my friend....I probably need to go punch something.
