Joining today. Reading about the 5 minutes has inspired me to try this on my living room. I have a pretty console table that catches everything and I really want it to be tidy. The other area in the room is around my recliner. I have made a messy nest that is beginning to make me crazy. While stove was heating - 5 min tidy to console table While biscuits were baking - 2 5 min tidy to kitchen counter While sausage was cooking - 1 five min tidy to kitchen table " " " " - 1 five min tidy to kitchen storage cabinet Things are already looking better!

The fridge has to be done this weekend. Colorado peaches truck arrives tues Aug 10.
Challenge.
So, I have this resistance thing. Some of you know what I'm talking about. Write a Listzilla, then do nothing on the list. I, me, decide, then don't. I should, but don't.
But, somehow, a "challenge" flips it. I challenge you (me). As in "betcha can't". And my inner snark goes, oh, yea? can too! And I do.

I think you should get extra points imamess for incorporating these steps in to your everyday . The way you have the mini tasks listed is a great example of how I want to do this challenge..... For that "magic time" of major cleaning and declutter really is never happening for me right now. I have to learn a different way.

The '5 minutes' (though i don't look at a clock) has been working for me again recently. Especially when I'm waiting for something to finish. Or when I'm just walking by something that needs doing, and I actually notice it. It's part of doing 'the little things' instead of only focusing on 'the big things'. I'm hoping this will prevent back-sliding which happens all too often.

I'm so happy to see people using baby steps! It's the only way I can get anything done.
Last week I spent 50 minutes on paper and 20 minutes on office supplies.
My important paper file cabinet drawer is totally organized, and my next most important drawer is almost done too. This gives me peace of mind, as long as I can find the important stuff.

Took a load to the project room this morning and started organizing. On my way back to the project room now with a a basket full of leather & hardware to sort and put away. GF & I put a box of important papers away. He & one other person know where this is. Now it is NOT by my chair. The basket of leather & hardware will be another big step in the area around my chair. I also need to get a sack and put some of the leather strips and wood chisels in it to go to the project room with the basket. This will make a world of difference.

Several 5 minute sessions got my cell phone pouch hardware organized. I've wanted to do that for months and just couldn't find the motivation. Whoo Hoo!!! The area around my recliner looks much better also. Win win

Finally making a bit of headway on my kitchen The biggest win was that I didn't have quite as much of DM's stuff to absorb as I thought. I have a nice healthy donate pile going I completely cleared and evaluated every item on the counter tops. I found out that I had one extra shelf in a cabinet (it was resting on another one) so I was able to add a shelf! I've cleaned out 12 drawers, 1 single door cabinet and 1 double door cabinet. Four of the drawers were the worst of the worst - 2 were "junk" drawers (we all know what that means!) and 2 were "med" drawers. I completely emptied the smaller med drawer and am repurposing it for the spices we use primarily for curries, etc. Crazy find - one bottom drawer is always sticky - this time I pulled it completely out and looked behind it. Really odd notes from a previous owner - some kind of "clue/murder mystery" game. I hope! Remaining - 10 drawers, 1 lassie Susan, 3 single door cabinets and 10 double door cabinets. And yes I know that sounds like a ton of storage but as I've complained on my blog many, many, many, many times - it isn't efficient. Drawers are small and hold just a few things - one cupboard is at such an angle - it only holds 2 bottles of salad dressing per shelf. So it sounds A LOT more impressive than it is!

I love reading this thread! My goals for August is this list. I might not get everything done, but it will keep me focused enough to make progress at the very least!
The most important thing is to deal with all the undone paper work projects, all are urgent and important. I'll make a more detailed list in my blog.
I will be finally tackling my storage space in the basement. It needs a through cleaning, and reorganizing and taking some things from my home down there. I haven't done practically anything to it all year I have lived here, and it's nagging me.
I would also love removing everything from under my bed. It's only a bin for out of season clothes, and my bright light lamp (SAD lamp) box, and one larger item I want to sell or donate. Sometimes I have my mini trampoline there, too, but I have another place for it. I would like to have it clear at all times.
I also want to sell and/or donate the largest items that are taking space here, most importantly, a small table, two chairs and a side table.
Additionally I want to get back to adding deep cleaning tasks to my weeks. I recently restarted this, and I've already made lot of progress. For example I want to wash the balcony area rug, and empty the lint filter of my washing machine.
In list form: 1. deal with all the undone paper work projects, all are urgent and important 2. include deep cleaning tasks to my weeks, such as washing the balcony area rug, cleaning the lint filted from the washing machine 3. clean and organize my basement storage 4. sell and donate especially the largest items 5. clear the space under my bed, and store the things elsewhere. I would like to replace my bright light lamp with a new, small model. The one I have is HUGE and takes a ton of space, both when in use or stored.
