I have to confess I had forgotten all about this thread and haven't done much clearing in dd's bedroom or in our motorhome. I've made some progress with clearing stuff off the bed in my daughter's room and have thrown some stuff out of there. There is a great glut of books in her room and I have put some out on the 'landing' simply because there was nowhere to put them in her room. Maybe I'll just donate them.
As from the motorhome, all I've done with that is check the contents - a lot of ham radio equipment, lots of maps, atlases and magazines, small gas cylinders for a small gas heater we used in the motorhome when it was cold. About a year ago a radio ham friend promised he'd round up some members of the ham radio club dh belongs to to come and clear out some radio equipment that's in the garage. Well, they never came, so I'm going to have to ring him and ask him if he and the other guys can please come. This is quite typical of this guy - all talk and no action.
A few people have expressed an interest in the motorhome, but selling it would mean having one less room to use. A friend of ds#1 has suggested that we swap the motorhome for his small caravan. We'd probably have to work out some kind of deal, but it would mean we wouldn't have to lose the extra room and there wouldn't be the same pressure to sort out dd's room, although I'd probably continue with that challenge. Of course, ds's friend would need to come and see the motorhome to make sure he's ok with taking it - and we would need to clear it for that.

It's getting close to the end of August with just over a week remaining. I've done the minimum of attending to 'the small stuff' almost every day before it got to be 'the big stuff'... and the place looks nice (for me) seemingly with not too much effort. I've found myself just reaching down to pick up a stray piece of paper or a thread, or wiping a counter simply because I saw something on it. Hopefully I'll continue to concentrate on the little things so a habit really does get ingrained to help stop backsliding.
I have been doing a lot outside too, and while that is good and makes the yard look nice, I've not been attending to the larger task of decluttering inside the house. It's true there are only so many hours in the day, and only so much energy in this old body, but I want to keep making progress on simply getting rid of more stuff. So while I believe I've made good progress in one area, I have not in another. That most likely will be something for Sept or when the days get shorter and colder.
So for the remainder of August, I want to stay with doing the little things. And maybe thinking about doing a little more too if possible.

I'm still working towards this challenge. The take 5 method has been a great help!!! I just took my donations and actually fund a textile recycler to donate to. It's game on!

This weekend went through all the dishes that are stored in the family room. I have one built in cabinet and one stand alone. DM brought one antique china cabinet that we have repurposed to only things that aren't useful to me but she wants to keep - a combo of dishes and knick knacks. She has one or two pieces of ALL the dish sets that have been in her life - my great grandma, my grandma, my aunt as well as her own. I'm glad that I went through everything and had it fairly well organized during the shut down. I was able to just re-org my stuff a bit as well as remove items for donation. Between the both of us - I have a box full of donation items. Also have about five items going to friends. My hope is that I will keep those cabinets "good enough" until I actually can do a kitchen remodel and move things to new cabinets. The built-in matches my kitchen so it will be part of any remodel as well. Only thing left in the family room to do is my entertainment unit which holds my knickknacks, bell collection as well as all the table linens and silver chests. I plan to move all of my stuff to about 8 of the display cubbies and then give DM 3 or 4 places to put some of her display items. I have some bells that can go - they are just your standard "collectible" bells that all look alike but have a place name on the handle. I gave those up a long time ago. Any bells after the first few years of collecting are unusual and unique. My first bells were bi-centennial danbury mint ones - so sad, looked them up on eBay - not worth much. . But they make me happy. Moving all the linens to the guest bedroom so that I can curate the collection with all the linens that I pulled from DM's stuff - mostly hand embroidered by my grandmother. I have four silver chests . One is from FOL's other side of the family so it is going back to add to the sort of FOL's stuff. Hoping that I can greatly scale down my grandmother's as well. Just keep mine and my mother's intact. Bonus - went through all of DM's room as well - everything that wasn't in drawers or behind doors. Took out A LOT of stuff - her room looks better now and is less depressing. September challenge will probably have me finish her room. Won't finish all I wanted to do in August but did a lot! Thanks Diane! PC

Today is the last day of August. I've had what I would call a mixed month. I've done something every day, but sometimes just a llittle. It's usually been mindfully, and sometimes I've found myself just doing things like picking up something from the floor, or wipeing a counter. I've done lots of good work outside in the garden too, but that wasn't part of the challenge. Not that that matters. I really liked it when I found myself picking up or doing things without thinking about it. I think that was the result of so many 'just 5 minutes' episodes. I want to continue with that, but not on a 'must do' basis. I want it to flow more from just living and wanting better order. I want to do it, but I want it to be more or less automatic. A downside is when I was concentrating more specifically on the 'just 5 minutes', when I was finished with that, I sometimes didn't get much more done. I was finished with my task, right? Well, that one of course, but there is more to do. So the little battles got won, but the larger war is still there. Progress, not perfection. And September is another month.

Good ones $45, cheapo $17. Hmmm. Asked a GF if her hubby had a pipe cutter. She called me back, said he'd use a hack saw. Oh! Duh! I have one, just need a metal cutting blade. □buy hacksaw blade Hmmm, I worked on the sewing room not at all in August. I did get the fridge cleaned out, and several small power tool tasks in the kitchen. The kitchen, except for maint is where I want it. Well, no. There's no curtain, and the window is missing a bit of wood. Also, if like a plant shelf at the window. But for functionality, I'm there. Also, I didn't do the the blanket dry rack or backlog wool washing. All in all, I'm thrilled with my response to the challenge process.

I was going to post last evening, or this morning, but Ida took our power out... My mom's health has been declining rapidly, so I was at her home more than expected. That being said, I'm just glad that I got something done. GOALS for AUGUST: 1. Declutter Kitchen. 4 shelves (A bag will be a plastic shopping bag full) 2. Declutter 4 bags from bathrooms 3. Declutter 4 bags from laundry room 4. Declutter 4 bags from bedroom 5. Project: 4 hours working on Anthologie quilt 6. Project: 4 hours work on tiling in my shower stall 7. Complete assignments for next chapter in Buried in Treasures.
