It has come to my attention recently that I am sensitive to just "gross" things we have to come in contact with from time to time. Sometimes these things cause me much stress and anxiety....Can anyone relate? The most recent was last night DH called and informed me that he was bringing home a "Mess of Fish" flounder to be exact and that he did! ( These are the fish that have both eyes on one side.) Anyway, The fish was very good fried and in PoBoy sandwiches so I won't complain much on that .....But the clean up has taken me hours and DH though he was doing good by taking the garbage out to the outside bin. Nope! That bin won't be emptied until Next Thursday. So I just got through digging all the fish parts out and putting them in my freezer in the garage, all contained of course. Finally, I can be peaceful a little while. Can anyone relate?

I don't do well with rotting food. It's not a big problem now, because I mostly keep up with eating the produce I have. In the past, I'd avoid dealing with old containers or old produce. The food only ever got worse, dang it. When I had a dog and a fenced-in yard, I'd get grossed out by the stuff I'd missed or ignored. Delay was both the cause and effect of my problem. For you and your problem: Have you told DH that in future it'd be really helpful to bag the fish bits and freeze it? Alternatively, Wednesday (only on Wednesdays) is Fish Day.

Main thing is make a note to yourself next Wednesday . I can't name how long old oyster jars stayed in my freezer and missed garbage day - definitely several months. Right now I have my DM living with us and we have some challenges with her eating. That is one thing that makes me sick is watching someone else get sick. When I worked at DM's house - I'd get freaked out by the "unexpected" such as having to walk through a bunch of spider webs in the cellar to put out rat bait. Never knew what would end up in my hair, on my clothes or at my feet. The same for deep closets and attic space with no light. Shudder........ Cleaning up all the stuff was worse because it was just wet and smelly and you couldn't stand up straight - cellar was always very, very damp. Blah.

Yes! Communication is key goldenthreads I will let him know. Just a funny side note: after DH fought to clean and prepare the fish and sputtered and splattered fish all in the kitchen, He determined we had enough to eat so decided to give the excess to a friend, lets say about 10:30 at night. Thank you phoenixcat if been known to keep the same too long and unlabeled.

I freeze garbage too sometimes. One thing I have found helpful is to take a marking pen and put a big “G” on the pkg when I put it in freezer. Then, even when I do forget to put it in the can next week, at least I am reminded that it is garbage for the next time I look in the freezer!

Gross stuff in large amounts fills me with avoidance and dismay. Small bits of yuckiness I can deal with, no problem. So I would maybe be a four-to-five flounder gal, tops.

Re: garbage in the freezer - I save up used fats and oils in a container, and I always have trouble getting it out to the trash bin, especially in summer, when I really want to do it at the last minute. I should put a big note on the door to the garage!

Warning mine will be gross and contain the topic of death-I don't do well with maggots partially due to my father's death and partly just because they are gross! Once I had some catfood get wet on my bathroom floor, I didn't know until my neighbor called the health inspector, I had maggots in this wet cat food on my floor! Thankfully the health inspector didn't notice them!
Carcasses- the carcass from a whole chicken or a whole turkey grosses me out more than words can say! I hate touching them, I hate dealing with them! Once I was soooo overwhelmed I left one in a covered pot for days. It was gross!

I am very lucky when it comes to food garbage - I have a large backyard with a small stream and woods behind it. ( The woods are not ours; they belong to the township and are preserved from development, thank goodness.) I have a big compost pile where I bury fruit and vegetable scraps, and spoiled or leftover meat just goes on the ground next to the stream at night. In the morning it’s always gone. Skunks, opossums and raccoons eat it. I hardly ever have to put garbage out with the trash. On the occasions when I do, I freeze it also. Trash pickup is only once a week so it would be awful in a day or so. We don’t need any more flies around here!

One year, after hosting a big Thanksgiving dinner for all my in-laws, I took the dirty pots and pans and stacked them outside my side kitchen door. Gross and they were visible from the street. I did drag them back inside and wash them before Christmas!

one thing that makes me gag is soap scum combined with long hair in a shower drain, and having to clean that up or worse yet, dig it out- that caused me to give up my house cleaning job idea many years ago. (so glad i did; gardening was so much less gross!) i still gag thinking of it! i keep my own hair short for this reason! my place may be a hoarded up nightmare but i am fanatical about the shower drain!
maggots. yes, they are gross and disgusting. i had them this year not once but twice. rotting potatoes, it turned out; both times. i kept wondering why those little weird flies were in the apartment. the smell was terrible.
