Hi cando! Decisions about flooring are a big project to get done. I'm excited for you, thinking about the nice new floors!
I moved enough stuff on the back porch floor to make a space for the new shelves. I swept the floor and washed the windowsill behind the shelves, I almost thought I should wash the window but it hasn't been touched in I don't know how many years, it's behind a shade, and I don't want to get going on side projects, if I ever decide to actually use the window I will wash it then. I moved the shelving unit into place, to my shock, it is steady without my adjusting the leveling feet, even though the floor in the back porch is uneven--I guess it's even in the area near the windows. So now I can start filling up the shelves the next time I work out there.
Next:
10 minutes on paper Start a load of laundry Pack a trading book Delete 30 emails

cando that is so exciting for all that new flooring mostly paid by insurance. Will you need to go stay somewhere while it is done? My sister had all new floors put in her house in nearly every room due to water damage from ice build up. They stayed at a cottage right on the water while it was being done and insurance paid! Will you have to empty all the rooms? They did but used garage, basement and I think one or two rooms where the floors were ok. I did get moving! Laundry in dryer and washer Took out trash and recycling Took a stash and dash box that had been living on the top of my hamper since November (!!making it a pain to put clothes in hamper everyday) and sorted that into recycle, shred, keep Once again, I was dismayed to find a mix of important documents (the statement that my car loan was paid off) mixed with store coupons Ugh. Such stupid short term decisions I was thinking that so much of my disorganized paper is from stuff coming unbidden through the mail. I actually do a rough mail sort each day — stuff that goes right to the recycle bin, some putting of bills in a special canvas envelope but some just left to stack, and the dangerous pile of “I’ll check that out later” I am declaring a resolution for 2023. Each day either recycle, shred, or store mail. No more misc piles that cause me so much damage, disorganized mess later. If I want to keep something I will need to create a place for it. But my goal will be keep only necessary like bills or financial documents. All else shred or recycle That won’t fix the years of paper squalor (even neatly filed paper squalor from years past - I over filed for YEARS!) but it will help the now and the future Meanwhile I emptied my box of paper only to discover it immediately filled up — with boycat!

Done: Transferred another scrappy cardboard box of memory box stuff into a nicer, more uniform box Threw out an old art print - I was fond of it, but it's been ruined by sun fading Threw out some packaging materials I haven't used in years Organised the contents of the desk into boxes for stationery, technology and sentimental things Put passports, birth certificate and health card into the important files metal lockbox Put all other paperwork into my paperwork trays - I did just throw them in anywhere because I need to go through the whole set of trays, but they're at least off the surfaces for now Packed up all trash into the crate I'd emptied earlier and have asked bf to move it somewhere out of the way til we can arrange another recycling centre trip Finished that with enough energy to tidy up Checked up on the mould treatment and it's working well, I'll scrub it off before I go to bed

mylittlescholar Girls night sounded like so much fun! dtesposito Yes, I'm excited -- but wow! So much to do! Don't want to pack up all the clutter when tons need to be gotten rid of. But, it's doubtful we'll have time to go thru stuff. We are also getting rid of some furniture as we progress. bree so far not covering hotel stay or the pod that we need. We are going to try to get it covered. Also, we may have to board my sweet Dog. Hoping to just have dogplay during the days so she can come home & sleep with us. We will be renting a large pod & maybe an extra trash dumpster for the house and possibly an extra recycle dumpster (have to find out the laws and rules.) We will be trying to get more covered.. Insurance will be covering most of it, but we are paying some extra to have 2 1/2 additional rooms done. Insurance will cover half of the back bathroom (only where carpeting was -- we want the whole bathroom done with tile & NO carpet in there. Insurance will also cover all the bedrooms (1 we use as a junk room/office). There is a total of 4 bedrooms including the Master bedroom. It will also cover the hallway and our living area/den. We are choosing to replace the dining room carpet & kitchen floor. The ONLY floors not being replaced are the large laundry area, the entry hall area, and the front bathroom. So far, today: Meds to Dog Fed Dog Laundry load #1 into washer Moved to dryer Hung that load Called flooring contractor Signed the quote, scanned it & emailed it back. Yay! It's gonna happen! Went with DH to pick up rental car that the dealership is providing since last weekend the Ford Escape that we just got back after 4 months (replaced transmission-factory defective) we had to have towed due to transmission issue. And, it turns out they have to replace this one, too!!!! This is geting ridiculous -- it's been in for repair longer than we've had it. They are still having problem with supply of parts, etc since Covid began................. so who knows how long they will have it, again. We only had it back for 2 weeks -- or was it less than that?! Next: More laundry Feed dog 2nd feeding So much to do! Don't know what to do first! A rant is next: (a little frustrated with DH who does project planning all the time -- he was supposed to start planning this project a month ago when we discussed this. Oh well... And, it's been tough working with him with decision making because he has insulted me and been labeling me. I know he is terribly depressed right now, too... but really?! for 3 days I asked him to bring in the heavy large floor samples form his car. He didn't do it until almost midnight Wed night -- I was going to do it myself, but it would have made him mad -- he was gone helping a friend out until about 11pm on Wed night. I texted him to bring them in as soon as he gets home that night -- and I had no idea he was going to be that late helping his friend who was buying a vehicle. i was certainly ok with him helping his friend out, but never meant for it to go on that late! not when we had a deadline to get the carpet samples back & need to work fast getting this flooring replacced now.. BTW, he was mentioning to me to ask his brother's wife for help with picking out the floors -- she is all the way across the country.. pictures are off in the colors & it's like he didn't trust that I can pick out what I want in my home. I only picked out the current carpeting 30 years ago and he liked it and well -- 30 years later we still have it! So I don't think that I did that badly annd she is a neat nut! No way am I going to face time so she can see the place, etc. NO WAY! Then, he was irritated for me NOT wanting to ask for her help. I was miffed, but it was late at night and I decided it's okay to ask for help as long as we don't show her our messy, cluttered home. Anyway, I felt insulted that he wanted to ask others for their opinions.... can we not make a decision on our home. Yes, I'm not an interior decorator, but this is not a mansion -- it is a small home less than 1600sf old home. We don't need an interior decorator, really. If I was having difficulty in making decisions about it-- that would be different. Then, he said something about my anxieties about the floor... Well, to tell you the truth, I am different from most people and just because I love carpeting and really don't like hardwood floors and the care that they require and don't like the look of wood... doesn't mean that I am anxioius. Besides NOT liking the look of wooden floors, I have reasons for not really wanting it, I am doing it purely because he wants it and thinks he will like it more and be better for when we decide to sell this home. That is true, but we are living in the home, now. We should like and enjoy our home. But, I am away from the home these days far more than him, and I want to make him happy. So, I selected samples that I like and he liked them all too. So, why did we need to ask others... he put it out for group conversations with friends. I went along and played along because he wanted to choose for resale value even though he told me the opposite. After conversations with them, I could tell he let them influence him. That's okay, but he used to be honest with me. We used to discuss and listen to each other. Not that way, anymore. I think it has to do with both of us being very depressed. I love him, but having some difficulties right now............... I don't like the way he talks to me too often these days-- but I try to realize he is just not himself right now.....he is unhappy and so am I. So, who knows... maybe I'm too critical and I am anxious about the care of these new floors. I HATE to mop! Oh well... I and he will figure it out and we will be happy once we see our home. It will be llike a brand new home!) RANT OVER! I'm trying to be happy, but I am by myself at the moment and just want to cry. Okay, throwing myself into work... here goes. CD

Wow reve, you're working hard tonight!
Oh cando, I'm sorry your DH is being not so D! It's bad enough that you're dealing with taking care of your ill relatives and working full time, it would be nice if you got support at home. Keep standing up for yourself! I thought you were getting the flooring instead of carpeting because you liked it, I love having floors that don't have carpets, carpeting is SO hard when you have animals, especially cats that vomit often (cats vomit way more than dogs do) or old dogs that get to the point where they have accidents. Maybe you can get some nice throw rugs if you miss the carpets.
I had my long phone call and then had dinner. I just moved the laundry to the dryer so I'll have to get it later, but I think I'm done for the day, I really lose my energy by early evening.

dtesposito DH has been an angel when it comes to helping with my Mom and both parents before my Dad died. He has truly been wonderful, so he is still a Dear to me. I think it is just the depression right now. And, I have come to terms with the flooring, and yes, I know it is supposed to be better with pets and most people do like it. I really had come to terms with it... but some floors you notice the cracks & knots in them a lot more than others. I like the ones that don't show as much, and I know it's supposed to look natural like real wood. And, yes, we talked about throw rugs and carpet pieces. We may do that... but I really have been looking at them and noticing the floor in places & looked up pictures online. I will be okay with the flooring... some samples had very large cracks and some didn't and you never know what you're going to get. But, I am okay with most of it. I don't have to LOVE it -- and because DH has been such a Dear for most of our married life... that is why I want to make him happy with it. So, when the sample that I ruled out first due to the crack, he said "Why are we even looking at these type floors? You are NOT going to be happy with any of them..." And, then awhen i stood back a few feet and looked at the samples on the floor -- I didn't even see the crack in that sample and it became my #1 or #2 choice, after all. I don't thnk that I'm unreasonable--just not used to it and trying to find what is acceptable to me. In the end, I told him my top 2 choices on the main flooring for most of the house, but told him that I would be happy with any of them. I really did like all 6 of the samples that we had for the floor for most of the house. I don't think we can go wrong with any of them. So, I let him take the samples back yesterday and let him speak with the contractor. Het made the final decision and it was my #1 choice. If I can find links on line I will post them. cd

My partner is v indecisive too cando. I'm good at project managing but I'm not a very practical person. I can put together IKEA furniture but that's about it as far as DIY, so I plan and then guilt trip him into doing things but he's not very practical either, so things don't get done. That was a good prompt for me to nag him to organise the screws we need for some new wall lights - I'd bought them specifically because it looked like command strips would be enough for them but there isn't space on the back. Hopefully we can declutter enough to ask his dad to come out and help us!
Diane, I've certainly been trying!
Done: Scrubbed the mould gel off the bathroom window- delighted at how well it worked! I will need to plan when I can use it to tackle the seal on the washing machine next. All of the things I cleared from the little office that were for the bedroom have been located there for a sort through Organised the new toilet roll holder box thing I bought for the en suite and emptied a packet into it
By my count, that makes 30 tasks for today, so I'm happy with a job well done. See you tomorrow everyone!

He made the final decision and it was my #1 choice.
Okay, so maybe he realizes that you have good taste and that you want to be happy in your home! That's good.
I have a vent too. I don't think I mentioned it here, but Amazon is discontinuing their Amazon Smile donation program, which benefited so many small charities. They say it's because with so many organizations the support is spread too thin and doesn't have an impact. Well, yes, it does have an impact to a tiny group, multiplied by all the tiny groups that get the money. What they mean is that they want a huge splashy impact that they can use in their PR efforts. I'm so annoyed by this, I know a lot of people already boycott Amazon for various reasons, and I can't do that since I don't drive and have to rely on online merchants--but I will be checking everywhere else first to see if I can buy things elsewhere. It's not like they can't afford it!

Moved Laundry Load #2 to dryer Unpacked big box that was Entry Hall -- it was shipment from Petsmart of dog food, but box was badly damaged. It's been sitting there for several days. So, finally got brave enough to open it. I had thought DH would do it, but I'm guessing he was afraid of the contents being torn and loose food in the box or the food all powdery, too. All that angst about opening the box & damaged goods -- well, all is fine!!! If anything this food is less powdery than usual. Emptied the bags into our dog food containers. Tossed 3 empty bags of dog food Broke down the big box & put it & the packaging by the back door to go to the outside recycle can dtesposito I use Amazon Smile, too. But, I did read an article that said it's really not good... can't remember the details. I didn't know they were discontinuing it. CD
