My next mini challenge is to clear off the top of the piece of furniture in the bedroom. I keep putting little things on it, that I don't know what to do with. But I have more functional plans for that surface, so time to clear that debris that's been there forever - either put it away, donate, or toss.
Destination: functionality!

My mini challenge today was to try a new, quick recipe. It made only 2 servings. Greek Lemon Soup. Not bad. catcats

The next mini challenge is the hall closet. It's semi functional for storage, but I don't know what's in the bottom part beneath the things I do use. I have the coming week to go through the stuff. I suspect lots can be tossed.

And just about 2 hours later, the job is done. So much of what was in there was really out-dated foods, and various plastic trash bags. I usually don't pay total attention to 'best by' dates (I stay aware and let my eyes and nose decide), but these were years outdated. So out it went. The rolls of plastic bags were organized and put on a shelf. Then I vacuumed and made the closet floor the new home for bags of dry cat food, and the now-vacant shelving for cans. Very nice since they get fed just a couple feet away. So much more efficient. Sad to say it never even crossed my mind to clean out that closet, or how much it would aid in easy organization.

The next mini challenge (no time limit) is covering, and then moving the electronic waste into the garage where there is space and out of the way. There is no reason for it to be in the house. 2 keyboards, 2 monitors, and 3 old computer bodies. Some parts will go into electronic waste at the landfill, but there's not enough for a special run, so into the garage they go. edit: task completed.

My mini challenge today was to dig out an electric candle warmer in the basement and take it to the curb for trash pick-up tomorrow. It hasn't been used for about 15 years.

catcats I had to look up what an electric candle warmer is. I have/had something similar for keeping hot tea warm. I don't know what happened to it - it might still be in the garage. My next mini challenge is working the middle section of the hallway. It's too often the drop off transition spot for taking something to another room, and now it's become a problem. When that is done, I'll be able to vacuum all 3 sections of the hallway without anything (besides the cat feeding station) being in the way. Time goal - by the end of the weekend. edit: Task completed to 'good enough'. Things cleared and carpet vacuumed. Could use another pass with the vacuum and walls washed, but for now it's much, much better. 'good enough'

Mini challenge for today - get as much done as possible cleaning and culling things from the 3 shelves above the microwave. Including the very high one. Somethings have been just sitting there collecting dust and grime for years. edit: I spent a few hours yesterday on this task. I washed most things and put back other, lighter, things on the top shelf with a long-handled tool. It looks so much better and is far more functional. Bonus - experimenting with cold brew coffee added to my morning cocoa, made from a way.. past.. 'best by', but unopened can of coffee from the top shelf. Quite good.

I have an aluminum ladder outside that is laying flat on/in the soil and buried more than half way. Before the weather prevents removing it for another year and it gets encased in mud, I want to extricate it. In the next 3 days, at some point the weather should allow working outside. It shouldn't take too long, but it won't be a pleasant job.

Betsy Marie, no, it won't be a pleasant job, but as you say, the weather soon will keep you from doing it. So you will "git 'er done" !!
My mini challenge will be to empty my shredder before I vacuum because there are already little shreds from when I used it last week. I emptied it once then.

Yes, catcats digging out the ladder was not a pleasant job at all. But I did get it done, finally. I hope you got your shredder task done. My next mini challenge is dealing with a catch-all plastic box on the front porch. I've avoided this job for a very long time and it looks like &*@%. And I'm putting a time limit on it - it has to be done by the end of today. It really shouldn't take long, but it is a mix of keeper and trash and probably spiders. And the box is now broken to make everything worse. And the weather is not the best. (First World problem, I know) ................... edit: I did get it done. The nasty box and a couple other items on the porch dealt with. As the day dragged on, mentally kicking and screaming, I had to just go outside and do it. I also swept, put out new rugs/mats, and two nice fake poinsettias. It looked quite nice. And low and behold, about an hour later a neighbor stopped by bringing a gift. Good timing!

4 days left in '23. My bedroom is a room I've always avoided working in, simply because it was easy to just shut the door. So for maybe the last mini challenge of this year, I'm going to see how much I can do to make my bedroom really, really pleasant (not perfect). I've been doing a lot of good work in there recently, but with 4 days left, there is much more I can do. Let's see how much...

My mini challenge today was to pick up boxes that have fallen over and spilled in my hallway a couple of weeks ago. I did it! I picked it all up and put it away. My ha Way is clear! Yayyyyy!
My next mini challenge is going to be washing the new pots and pans we got for Christmas, decluttering the old ones, and putting it all away very organized.

December 31, last day, last mini challenge of the year. My mini challenge is to go around the house and do little things that will make things visually better. That seems like a nice way to tie the bow on a couple of productive months. In the big picture, I'm not near done, but starting 2024 in a better place should be helpful.
