oust it was also "a slob" moved out cleaning. The dust was so easy and so far no dust has reappeared. (in the areas I deep cleaned for dust). the fridge and microwave and oven and bathroom were beyond disgusting. But according to my daughter she deep cleaned all the time. They bought their new house in mid October. she is still moving stuff out of the apartment. But I must admit it has felt good doing all of this cleaning. I just ran an errand over lunch - I cant believe I got to the bank, got a cashier's check and was back to work within 20 mins. I need to pay the taxes on this rental home. THe city is claiming I did not pay the taxes due at the end of August. Thank goodness I have a copy of the paid receipt and the stub from the check here at work. When I go pay the bill on my afternoon break, I will bring a copy of the paid receipt from this fall. It is definitely getting colder out. We had such a warm spell - now we are in "normal" winter weather! And the cold weather is making me want to snack snack snack...... Do I think I am a bear and need to bulk up to hibernate? haha

Reve said: Working in the spare room has been interesting, because I am definitely finding I am a micro-organiser. Some places in my house are meticulously organised - collections arranged alphabetically, etc. but the spare room just has so much stuff in it that I can't get bogged down in finding the perfect place for everything. I am needing to macro-organise with broad categories for a change just to get any progress made at all. I'm finding having a "miscellaneous stuff to sort out later" box is really helpful at not forcing me to make decisions!
Oh my goodness - this is me!!!!

Good afternoon scholar!
warm up bathroom
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one--I've been skipping showers on the coldest days because the bathroom upstairs is freezing. The downstairs one is a little better but has the uncomfortable walk-in tub and I still have to try to warm it up before using it.
When I took the dog out the water bowl was just starting to freeze around the edges so I was able to break that off. It's 14 degrees but there's no wind so it doesn't feel that bad now. I looked back at my calendar to see the temp around Christmas and I see that on 12/23 the actual temp was 8 below, so this is nothing! It goes below freezing overnight tonight, though.
I'm stopping for lunch.

So I just ran to the government building across the street from me to pay my taxes. I guess when I called in the fall to find out what I owed in taxes - they only told me about the school taxes and not the city taxes. I know there are two tax bills in August. What was in my head? So a second trip will have to be made to the bank and back to the government building to pay that bill before the end of tomorrow. thank goodness I have ignored that account and that I can pay the bill.
time to call it a wrap for today....almost

Update on the seeds i planted in the hydroponic thingy, nothing yet! I used to grow from seed and would get something in about 3 days but this is killing with the wait. There is a small plastic lid on each pod, not years ago when i dried a lid to keep the moisture in it all failed so i hope that doesn't happen again.
I emptied and put away the dishes too a long for me walk of 40 minutes in 52 degrees!

Reve, good that you recognize that you need to macro-oganize, I think that's a problem for lots of us, it's the perfectionism thing again. If you can keep things meticulously organized that's great, but perfectionism makes us think that if we can't have things just so, what's the point in doing anything. I think it's a stumbling block in paper filing in particular, most people try to file things in too many categories and that's too hard so they never really get a system going. Flexibility is good. This is exactly it, and it's nice to know from y'all that it's not just me. Paperwork was one of the areas where this helped the most. Over the time I've been working on the spare room, I had developed a big precarious pile of paper balanced on a set of drawers, as well as a small pile elsewhere. I've chucked it all in a box for now with the intention of sorting through it....once I have a liveable house! - Achieved coffee table zero - Achieved dining table zero - Set out clothes for tomorrow - Sent an enquiry about redesigning our bathroom- this is a huge deal! - Replied to a message I had been putting off - Dusted ceilings in the hall - Dusted in the master bathroom - Used magic eraser on wall marks in master bathroom - Took stationery from earlier and put it in the office stationery box - Took unsorted box of stationery through to office for future sorting - Put an art print back in the trash I put it in while working on the office but I think boyfriend took it out (potentially out of guilt because it got badly sun damaged because he has still not put curtains up in the office in over four years....) - Went through box of baking supplies. Sugar seems undated but I probably won't use so much so will set aside for mum. A couple of things are still in date and might get used so have moved to pantry bookcase. Everything else trashed - We got some big extra strong trash bags so I'm putting them to use

Done: - Wiped down plastic crate that food had been in - Went through two large cardboard boxes and transferred everything I'm keeping to the smaller plastic crate (minus two micro organised shoeboxes of sports merchandise! If it weren't for the couple of loose items I shoved in, I just know everything would be in perfect chronological order!) - Trashed several items including my favourite old wallet, and a Continental Airlines free flying kit circa 1998 that I kept for 25 years because its contents would Definitely Be Useful One Day. That was, bizarrely, the hardest thing to get rid of today...

with the seedlings oust ! reve you are knocking it out of the park!
oh wait, I think neighbor is here with bulldozer--okay he is working in his backyard.
I've been working on the papers/notebooks/magazines consolidation project. found some things to donate/recycle. I have a bunch of empty bins of various shapes and sizes that I am holding on to until I figure out the craft room situation. I suppose I could put them in the craft room so at least one room is at zero.
in some ways its harder to figure things out when it doesn't really matter what goes where. especially when its subject to change.
I think I'll take a break next.

I got a call from my decluttering client during that last list, we hadn't talked in a few days so it was longer than usual. I think I'm done for today, so I will make dinner now.
I tried to look online for information about birds and hydration during winter--I can't seem to find any sites that sound like really trusted scientific information about birds, but a couple of the general sites about backyard birds mentioned that although birds can eat snow, since it's frozen it lowers their body temperature which requires energy to combat, which means they need additional calories--that makes sense, and makes me want to put water out even more often than I do. They have enough trouble getting enough calories in winter without needing extra. I remember when I first put water out when there was snow on the ground I felt kind of foolish, thinking they wouldn't need it, and I was so surprised that they all flocked around the water bowl. I guess they know what's best for them.
