Good Saturday morning!
Thanks for starting the weekend thread, lennon.
The weather forecast has moderated a tiny bit, instead of four 95 degree days in a row, we have 90 today and three 95 degree days--plus, the first two days have low humidity so no high heat index until Monday and Tuesday, and then not nearly as high as the 115 we had last week. So it should be tolerable. No rain in the forecast though, so I'll have to be watering.

Happy weekend everyone! I got a solid ten hours last night and a leisurely wake up and feel so much better for it!
Diane, I saw you were excited by mention of new bookcases. I have two half height bookcases in my little office space, though they are full to bursting. I've decided to replace them with full height bookcases, thinking the extra space would be nice for ornaments and storage.... I'm sure you know as well as I do that that plan will be shortlived as books keep appearing! I'll need to keep an eye on the store website where I was going to buy them. Ikea do have an alternative but the delivery cost is half the cost of the bookcases!
Done: Sorted cardboard recycling Emptied bathroom trash Emptied living room trash Filled a bag of trash from kitchen Changed towels bathroom Changed towels kitchen Bagged up clean laundry Handled mail - notification to book flu and covid vaccines, though I may wait until boyfriend gets his and try and book them together Watered plants kitchen Watered lilies living room

Good morning reve! This is so true and will be my new excuse:
books keep appearing!
They certainly do! Books do look nicer if they're not all jammed into the shelves though so taller bookcases will help, and they won't take up any more floor space. And maybe you'll have room for an ornament or two even when more books appear!
TO DO:
Call decluttering client Send email to shopping friend's out-of-state friend Start dishes soaking Delete 10 hard emails

Good morning (almost afternoon) to everyone. I had an early morning (well, 9:00 a.m. is early for me) appointment with the handyman who restored the basement years ago. There are lots of repairs that need to be done around here. I was too wiped out and texted him last night to reschedule. He will come in about a week to look at things and give me an estimate.
One more beautiful day here then we descend into a September heat wave for about 5 days ~ according to our local favorite tv weather forecaster not Accuweather. Looks like some records will be broken.
I'm going to redo my September goals for the house. Looking around I am embarrassed about all the things the handyman will have to work around. So maybe I can get that stuff cleared a bit.

Happy Saturday! Diane I think you will really like We Were The Lucky Ones, like danny15 and I did. The triumph of the human spirit over absolute evil is amazing. Like Danny, I don't know how I'd fare. Meanwhile, it is a beautiful day here. I just spent a considerable amount of time sitting out front with puppy, girlcat and boycat. Boycat is so tender towards girlcat. I think she is doing a bit better, the medicine must be making her feel better. Puppy was happy as she is rarely in the front yard. I have a really long leash for her but I never leave her out alone. So she was happy to sniff at the gardens Today I have no plans as a lunch plan was cancelled. I have these goals: go to store to buy dog and cat food return bottles pay bills this pay period do a form for DD college vacuum LR, DR, stairs, hallway go to library walk dog later keep up with dailies do my 20 things I am finding the 20 things to put away is a good thing for me so far. It is kind of like a game, and I include things to put away from daily living, like shoes, and also things that have formed clutter. have a great day all

Good morning danny! So you have heat coming too--somehow I think heat in September feels extra unfair because we're so close to fall. But I remember when I was in school there were always some very hot days in September while we were in our classrooms with no air conditioning, so this is one thing that isn't the result of global warming.
Last night the dog did have to go out around midnight, so I ended up sleeping til 6:30 this morning, then she didn't want to go out so I let her sleep. By the time we went out at 8:00 all the sleeping bees had awakened and flown away! But it was still not hot so I did some weeding and watering. Now it's hot so no more yard work until this evening.
I went downstairs to feed the dog and also started a load of laundry.

Sterilize dish sponge and wipe out microwave Wash some dishes Restock water in fridge Delete 50 emails

Good morning TML! You sound raring to go!
I, on the other hand, have been sitting in the reading room for the last 20 minutes, just staring at things. There are two windows right next to each other in that room, I have a plant table and a chair in front of them. I switched the two around so that the chair is facing the other side, so I can look in a different direction down the street. Somehow I think I would like that view better, and it also means I can see the direction that delivery trucks usually pass by from, as well as my neighbors and which cars they have parked. They have four cars in one house--and three of them park on the street, which means they park in front of my house, which is fine since I don't have a car. However, on garbage days I need to watch them in the afternoon and when they are gone, go out to put my cans out--if I wait until late afternoon there is no room. So while I'm sitting reading on garbage day I can keep an eye on the space availability.
I was going to move a plant table to the other side of the room too, but I'm thinking maybe I can just leave it the way it is for now. I want to bring up a small, narrow dresser that I have in the basement to aid in my reorganization of cards, stickers, etc., and I think there will be room for it the way it is now. I would like a slightly smaller plant table, but I've been looking for weeks and no one makes exactly what I want. So I'm going to bring the little dresser up and go with this configuration for a few days and see if I like it better. I'll have to clean off the dresser since I'm sure it's dusty.
But first I'm going to have lunch.

Diane, good thinking on all the organizing in the reading room and being able to look out for garbage space on the street.
As our animal family grows smaller we have been reconfiguring spaces to use for other things, sometimes returning them to their original purpose. Part of the upper front hall was used as a cat station for many years. It's a bit out of the way, doesn't interfere with walking. Eventually that morphed into an organized place to stack shoe boxes filled with mostly athletic shoes. There are some LL Bean boot boxes there, And some boxes from Skechers that were called Bobs for Dogs (and Cats) that donated a portion of sales to shelter animals. With my hoarder mentality I am very glad we overbought those! Can't find those anymore (the ones we have). They are cute slip-on shoes that had big faces of certain breeds of dogs or cats on the upper main portion of the shoe. And they were pretty colors which DD1 and I love. I always got compliments on the German Shepherds.
We also keep small bins there that have slide out drawers for colorful socks. Easy to dump in the socks and not worry about matching pairs. Pull out whatever. I got all those moved out, dusted, (and dusted the walls, baseboards and picture frames above), reorganized according to whether the boxes were for me or DD1. Then organized according to color of box and size (again loving my OCD play time). Yay me.
On my way down the front stairs I noticed more shoe boxes stacked to be carried upstairs but of course have been sitting since they are not a trip hazard for who knows how long. Easy how clutter blindness makes things disappear then suddenly things reappear when they are on your mind. At first I thought oh no, now I have to redo everything in the upper hall to accommodate those boxes. Then I thought no Danny, let those go and you will deal with them when you tackle that part of the stairs.
So I am happy I was OCD on part of the work and relaxed on another part. I am still in the *I can get all this stuff organized* mentality with getting rid of only a few things as I work with them. I figure that when the time comes for a serious purge of a certain area it will already be cleaned and easier to go thru versus sitting in the middle of a big, dirty semi-dump pile. That was kind of what happened with the dressing room clean-out and was very stressful and depressing.
I'm trying not to beat myself up too much for the outrageous overbuying. Part of that thought process was that when I am gone DD1 will have every single thing she needs to live without anyone having to buy things for her. When we see what is available now we are always happy we bought when things we loved were available. The same thing happened with jeans. We have enough jeans to last past our deaths. I'm glad because our favorite jeans mostly aren't made anymore.

Hi oust!
Danny, I had never heard of the shoes with animals on them. I overbought on stuff over the years too, but not on clothing, that's just not my interest at all. With the exception of the mesh shoes that I bought a lot of, once I finally found shoes I could wear that didn't hurt my hammer toe. Mine was stationery items and decorative things. And now I gave a lot of the decorative stuff away, and have more of it packed in my basement, very little of it is out. And I don't miss it, this is what I mean when I say that I don't have to own every wonderful item in the world, I can just look at a photo of it and appreciate it. I think when I had tons of decorative stuff out, it just became a big mass of stuff and I couldn't appreciate it anyway. Practical stuff that you can use later is better.
I took the dog out, and saw a hummingbird again! And some kind of butterfly but it was far away and I couldn't tell what it was. Then I went down to the basement to move the laundry to the dryer and bring the dresser up. Then I had to find something to stand the dresser on, and bring that up. So I will soon be pooped out for the day, I think. I will clean the dresser and then I can get started on my organizing stuff--I enjoy it too, stationery is one of my weak spots and just looking at it and packing it neatly is fun. The period between October and December is busy with the card charities, because there are so many Christmas card requests for various purposes, including for military people, those need to be mailed early because they can take as long as 6 weeks to reach service members depending on where they are. The larger Army bases are faster, there mail is sometimes received as soon as 2 weeks. But I want to be organized and ready to mail out cards, I love doing that.

I got a call from my shopping friend asking to go online and look for more clothing. It's so hard to try to describe items when she can't see them. She finally decided on a couple of things and I ordered them.
Now I have to get some things ready for dinner, my pre-prepped food in the fridge is almost gone.
