desposito My dad taught me to always carry a book with me. For long waits at the dr.s, in the ER, in parking lots, whenever. I am much less resentful of wasted time if I have a book. cando hugs dear friend..... I slept fairly well last night I think. beds are stripped and bedding is in the wash. This caused an avalanche of clothes so I will eventually need to deal with it. I am eating my greek food for lunch. then I will have no more leftovers. Hurray! Time to start eating healthier. Food festivals and snack bar drive ins are over/closed for the summer. I heard a story on NPR about eating healthy and those that ate "peasant" food were the most healthy. Basic foods, fruits, vegetables cooked simply but with plenty of seasoning for flavor I can get caught up in the research and I just need to start I have a box of collapsed boxes. Time to get those to a friend who is moving OK - back to work - happy day everyone!

I had to escort an insect out of the house. I heard buzzing and thought it was a fly, but it was some kind of stinging insect flying around the ceiling, maybe some kind of bee but maybe something scarier--definitely not a bumble bee. I got my insect cup and step stool out but just then it flew right up to the screen door so I was able to open it and kind of direct it outside. Now, I do open that door in the morning to put bird seed out, but there is not usually this kind of insect around the upstairs porch, so that always makes me worried that they're coming in somewhere. When I cleaned out one of the little storage areas at the side of this room after moving here, I found an old dried out wasp nest, so at least at one time there had to be an opening of some kind in the outside wall, probably where the roof connects. Hopefully this one just followed me in from the porch this morning.

There are so many new books I want to order at the library--I am now finished with my first book box project so I might order a couple of new books before starting on the second box's reading.
The first box ended up being: 24 books, 9 I knew I wanted to keep, at least for now, 6 I knew right away I didn't want, and 9 I wanted to try. Out of those 9 I started 6 and decided I didn't want them, and read 3, all of which I really liked. One of the books I read I will be keeping for now, that means out of the 24 books I'm keeping 10.
The second box has 11 that I have to try, so that will take a while to get through.
The next thing I'm going to do is call the bank to request the IRA distribution, now that my checking account is properly linked there. After that it's time for lunch.

reve, I hope you feel better soon. cando--I am sorry that your tiles in the BR are cracking; how annoying after all that reno work. And I am VERY sorry that your dear Mom is in the ER. I hope it turns out to be not too serious and I hope you get some rest soon. Did the dailies and laundry, took trash bin around to the curb, and wrote out several pieces of mail. Dusted a little and vacuumed a lot. My back is flaring again; I could hardly finish the vacuuming, but it was needed badly, and I did finish finally. I think I just need to rest a bit, but I can use ice if I need it. Diane, it isn't too hot today here either, although it felt hot in the house and I had the a/c on for a while. Hope you can get done what you want to. My best to all, catcats

Ugh--I got someone at the bank who was not quite clear on the information. He told me I could print the required forms off of the website--"but you'll want to give us a call when you get them printed so we can help you fill them out--they're very complicated." I asked why they were complicated because I received them last year and was able to fill them out easily--he said, well, for example, you have to have the date of the deceased person. Which first of all, is not true--they only need that information when setting up the bank account. Secondly, wouldn't I know that date better than they would? So I asked if he could tell me the amount of the minumum distribution and he told me that was up to me because there was no minimum for this kind of account. I told him that last year it was determined by the bank--he said, hold on, I'll look. Then he comes back with an amount. I'm glad I already did this last year or I would have taken his word for everything. So I told him I would print the forms and call back if I needed help.
I printed the forms off and no, there is nothing I need the bank to help me with.
I'm eating lunch now, I will fill the forms out later.

I finished washing my bedding and made the bed. The comforter was a little damp but it will dry by bed time. I found a left over quesadilla in the fridge from friday's lunch so I ate it. Yum looking to see if I have enough laundry for another load. Not much luck.
Time to do dishes or throw some mail away or put something away

Lots more damp dusting and PEEP in the back room today, and it's close to how i want it The floor actually got clear enough to put the rug down and I'm still staring at the sight of the floor without debris on itπππ β« Things to do for this room include looking out for a few items that can go on the empty plate shelves,,,, also the bean bags and tool boxes are just going to have to stay there temporarily, till other areas get sorted... I noticed a bunch of tins are at their best before dates, mainly bought in the uncertainty of 2020 and 2022, so no more food buying!!!! I allowed myself to discard a bag of rice and flour.. I'm working along to cleaning videos from a guy called Midwest Magic Cleaning. He seems to have a very thoughtful approach, and understands the problem of hoarding. Edit, many of the jobs this guy do are free to the homeowners, I think he earns his money from youtubing... Not sure if anyone here is close to where he is..

Catcats, sometimes I call it my insect cup and sometimes my bug taxi. It's just a small plastic container (like the kind for food storage) and I keep it along with a piece of stiff cardboard handy (one set on each floor) so I can catch insects and take them outside. I actually saw something on Amazon that's meant to catch insects--it has a plastic handle and a cup on the end. I almost bought one, but the reviews said there's a magnifier on top of the part that you set over the insect, I guess the idea is to entertain kids who catch them and look at them with the magnifier. However the reviews said the misleading distorted magnified image of the insect makes it too easy to not really know where it is as you're setting the cup down over them, which means that you can injure them, which is the opposite of the idea of catching them and letting them outside. Not to mention that if you injure a stinging insect and don't catch them...ouch, for both of you!
Decade, I didn't watch that video, but the photo in your post made me look at it and imagine how I would tell someone to start cleaning. And I realized that the reason it's hard for that person to clean that is that the hoarding aspect probably gets in the way. This forum talks about hoarding and about squalor, and sometimes people feel strongly that they have one or the other issue, but I always think they are more intertwined than we realize. I would bet that whoever's kitchen that is doesn't want to throw many of those things away, they want to recycle them but need to wash them first. And maybe for some items, like the aluminum trays and the glass jar, they want to wash and keep them. Although, I would also bet that their cupboard already has a fairly large number of empty glass jars and aluminum trays. And why is there dirt on the counters and stove? Because the excess items make it impossible to reach the surfaces to clean, plus the visual clutter makes it hard to even see the dirt.
So much of our issue is seeing our possessions in an unrealistic way. And the way out of it is to consciously try to change that over time.

True enough Di, the lady in the video hasn't been able to clean up for awhile, she'd gone beyond the tipping point and floors & surfaces couldn't be scrubbed..I'm not as far gone, but can tell it's all too easy to drift from untidyness into straight up squalor.
