It's December! Just one month left in 2023. For those of you who celebrate one of this month's holidays, are you prepared? This is also a good month to start thinking about bigger life goals in the new year, since January will feel like a fresh start.
The challenge is to get some projects done by December 31st.
The rules are up to you--psychologists say goals are more achievable if they're measurable and specific. BUT--if specific goals scare you, make them open-ended--anything that will help you get something done.
And remember, our goals can be guideposts--we don't have to finish everything perfectly, we just need to try our best!
Then post and let everyone know how it's going.

Thanks for setting this up, Diane!
1. Intensify decluttering efforts. Need to do 45+ items/day to make goal of 2023 for the year. 2. Decrease food inventory. Cook or compost the older stuff that's taking up space. 3. Make my own convenience meals. I tell myself that I want healthy, delicious meals, but it's obvious that my normal practice is about convenience. I want to combine those goals with my *** inclination and plan for cooking/assembling ahead. 4. Clear and make table functional. 5. Clear and make desk functional.
I can think of a few more, but these are the ones I'm starting with.

For some reason, something is not letting me edit my previous post. I "type" and the cursor doesn't move.
6. Clear sofa.

Hello golden! Weird about the editing not working. I'm back where I need to get rid of older food too--I always put it on a challenge and do well and as soon as it's not part of a challenge I forget about it. Maybe I will just try this month to remember to look at the old stuff every day without a formal challenge.
For the first week in December I want to be sure to do something from my challenge list every day so I don't get halfway through the month before I get started.

I think I should do another hour of weeding. I will do 1 hour of PUPA and cleaning in the doomroom den. I will take everything out from underneath the kitchen sink, clean it, and put in the new organizer bins, and reload it. Hope I can get back up again. I'll try to have Diane over one day to help me with my Christmas tree, etc. I need the help and she needs the money.
There is more I could/should do. However, it is a busy month and I won't commit to more right now.
Good luck , everyone !!

For my December challenge, I was having trouble coming up with something that appealed to me. Then the other day I saw the 2023 items thread and decided I'm going to do the last month of that. So 1/12 of that is disposing of 168 and 1/2 items. Most things likely will be charity donations which I've been sorting out recently. I'm hoping to get more done of course, but making long, back to back challenges of 30 and then 31 days I start to resist. I've got to tread carefully around resistance. As the various holidays approach, maybe I'll go back to setting mini goals too. Goals that I reach sooner tend to be more effective for me. Maybe set one of those per week for December. Whatever works to get it all done.

One of my goals for December is to get rid of most or all of our electronic clutter. Old computers, TVs, printers, etc. I have 25 years of stuff accumulated.

One of my goals for December is to get rid of most or all of our electronic clutter. Old computers, TVs, printers, etc. I have 25 years of stuff accumulated. That is a great one to work on. I've got old stuff too, but I don't know how to get rid of it in terms of security. But some neutral items could be taken to our landfill's free electronic waste bins. I've used those for dead vacuums, microwaves, etc. Things that might have 'data' on them could be moved into the garage where being ruined would not be a concern since they no longer work anyway. Thanks for the idea!!!

Today I worked a little bit on food. I threw together a simple meal from broth and lentils in the freezer, and added some flavorings and couple of other ingredients to make a decent soup. So there was success in food inventory reduction and in making a very convenient, healthy meal that took only a few minutes to make. Now I'm going to move the bigger container of broth from freezer to refrigerator so that I can have 2-3 days of soup or similar for health and for inventory reduction. Oh, and I wrote down the six December goals on a Post-It so I don't forget or have to get into this thread to find what they are.

Happy December! We came back from our trip with Covid so that has derailed some plans a bit. Due to a new kitten and all our travel - we aren't decorating this year which now seems like a good idea! Depending on recovery - 1) Take out bulk trash gathered from my November efforts! 2) Order and send Christmas cards 3) Send Christmas gifts. 4) Order food gifts. 5) Possibly travel for 4 days. We have reservations - depends on how we feel. 6) Try and go to at least 3 "holidayish" events. We have tickets for one and would like to attend at least two more. Maybe drive around and look at lights. 7) Maybe baking - this weekend is my "bake" weekend and I'm not comfortable while still being treated. I know that the CDC among others indicates it is not food borne but considering half my baking is given away - people are going to be suspicious and if they come down with a sniffle - they will blame me . Will see about next weekend. This may just be a weird holiday time for us and I need to embrace the weirdness. 8) Close out the year - company and personal. 9) Be thankful I don't have to put away a TON of holiday decorations in January. Today is the shortest day of the year. 10 days left in December. 10 days left to set myself up for the start of the new year in a better place. So my challenge for the rest of the month is to push hard and do as much as possible, working around the holidays, till December 31 gets here. On to that simpler, more functional life that I've heard so much about.

We have reservations - depends on how we feel. Cancelled - I was still sick and fatigued6) Try and go to at least 3 "holidayish" events. We have tickets for one and would like to attend at least two more. Maybe drive around and look at lights. So far nothing but still have the event tickets for one thing next week.7) Maybe baking - this weekend is my "bake" weekend and I'm not comfortable while still being treated. Will see about next weekend. This may just be a weird holiday time for us and I need to embrace the weirdness. No baking - it is too much work and I'm just too tired. Ordered some surprise flowers for my out of state people since no cookies headed their way. Saves me on calories!8) Close out the year - company and personal. Started - I have 2.5 days at office next week - will finish. I hope 9) Be thankful I don't have to put away a TON of holiday decorations in January.

I hope you feel better phoenixcat . I agree with you about the food, even if it is safe. I really like this week between Christmas and New Years Day. So much potential to end the year on a high, then a sense of relief to file the current year away, the good, the bad, and the ugly. And then we get to start over again. 26-27-28-29-30-31 6 more full days to get things done to head into 2024 in a better place.

Well, here we are almost at the end of the month! I was sure I had posted at least once this month but I see I didn't--that's because I didn't get much done. I guess I need to remember that I make a big Christmas card push in December and that takes a lot of my time.
Hopefully next month, the fresh start at the beginning of the year, will be a better chance to get things done. Congratulations to those of you who made progress this month despite the distraction of the holidays!
I will post at the end of the month with my meager accomplishments.
