I ended up doing three completely different things from what I planned.
I took a bunch of photos of antiques and collectibles, and contacted three places to see if they wanted them. (The local antique mall, and two museums.)
I feel like it was an afternoon well spent. It moves things along. If nobody wants them, I will feel free to give them to Goodwill or trash them.
Still To Do -Start load of laundry -Put curtains up in sewing room -Pick up prescription

DustyD Have you looked for them in eBay or similar sites under what sold? I found several of my mom's collectibles that I was a little stressed about and so far most have sold for $20 or less. My highest valued item found so far in all the things I've collected have been baseball cards. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/1879832/images/GuBQQkiwyXxnHbJKesLq.gif) . For flatware, china and glassware - replacements.com can give you an idea if anything is still wanted on the marketplace. Server dishes can be especially popular because most people have extra plates or glasses but usually only one casserole/lid or pitcher. Good luck - I checked with our local antique mart as well but didn't get many bites - I think it was during Covid and traffic for purchasing was limited.

It moves things along. If nobody wants them, I will feel free to give them to Goodwill or trash them. Sometime in December I contacted someone from an antique store. It was someone I knew casually for years from shopping the same garage sales. He purchased about $200 from me. It was worth more, but I didn't care. It was gone. That's his job, and he needs to make a living. I'm not going to sell on ebay or any other way, etc. He told me something interesting, and that is that kids today don't want the old stuff anymore. They don't want their parents silver or linens or old furniture. I've heard the same thing from other sources too. He said right now that 'there is a lot of stuff coming out'. Meaning lots of people are trying to sell their collectibles, or what they have inherited. And he didn't say it, but prices are going down. I've seen this on old Antique Roadshow episodes that compare then/now prices. Most things have fallen in value judging by their values. Unless it's jewelry or fine art and a few other exceptions. He went through my stuff and selected what he wanted (Indian things, jewelry, old American pottery). And left the bulk of the rest. He suggested I just give it to a charity, which is what I've been doing. And fortunately I've found a charity I like. I just want it gone. 13 boxes before the holidays. This was not an unpleasant experience. Bottom line - As you said, sell what you can, and give the rest away. What I've done: -washed the rest of the dishes -cleaned up washing area -put away dry dishes todo: -declutter in a back room -bring up bins from the street

BetsyMarie and phoenixcat thanks for the info on current conditions. I haven't tried to sell anything since before the pandemic. I had to empty my mother's house to sell back around 2017-2018. What's left are smaller things that didn't seem to take up much space and I felt could deal with later. I don't really care about the money, but I'd rather get these things to people who know what they are, instead of Goodwill. And if a museum wants them, so much the better. I did send some things to a museum this summer, and that felt good. I know it's irrational, but I feel like if I just throw it all away, something bad will happen to me!

DustyD . What phoenixcat said is good info. I also looked up much of what I was selling on ebay, sold items, not asking price. And things I thought 'should' sell for more, just didn't. Much in the $20 range. And I sold them for far, far less. Though good, most of mine were almost all yard sale finds. Years ago I had a friend who was in bad $ shape and had to sell many of her items. And she had things that were truly valuable. I learned from her experience that it's very difficult to get anywhere near an item's ideal value. I enjoy watching videos of the guys who buy storage lockers and sell the contents. Not the tv guys. what's instructive to me is how they sell the stuff. If it's valuable, it's put on ebay. And sometimes they have to sit on it for a long time. They also sell at flea markets and sell at low prices both to make it worth their time, and also just to get rid of the stuff so they can buy the next locker. They work very hard. I also don't care about getting top dollar. But I do like getting anything actually good I have back into circulation so someone else can enjoy it. After I get more sorted, I'm planning on calling the guy who bought some of my stuff to come back. I had held back a lot because I didn't know what he would be interested in, and I was unsure of the process.

Done -Showered and dressed -Went to grocery to pick up prescription, and got bread -Returned library books
Turns out DH's old friend is going to drop by after lunch. That kind of affects the rest of my day. I can't get too involved with laundry, because I have to go through DH's den to get to the washer and dryer. That's where they hang out, and I don't want to keep walking through. Still thinking what I can do.
Done (before friend arrives) -Start a load of laundry -Dishwasher, general kitchen clean up -Pick up main floor -Dust mopped floor of DH's den
