I am so relieved to have found you all. I was so confused about being a horrid housekeeper and a hoarder. I just thought I was the only one who lived like this. My Mom, God rest her sole, was an awesome housekeeper, typical June Cleaver style. I was always relieved to live with my parents off and on during the time my children were little. They could have simblance of order. When we lived on her own it was always chaos and clutter. I am trying to clean a little bit each day, at least I have gotten in the habit of the garbage taken out each evening. I am going to post some pictures soon, I think it will be cathartic for me. God bless all of you and thanks so much for letting me know I am not alone, Rhoda

Welcome, Cynthia/Rhoda! I'm glad that you found us! When I first found a site to help with my horrendous housekeeping I was so amazed! I felt so alone before! And I finally had people to ask those hard questions....about the kinds of cleaning issues you don't want your real life friends to know about! !
I'm glad that you found us!

Hi Cynthia and Crazy Cat!!! It is HARD feeling like you are the only Squaloree!!! But there are tonnes of us at various stages all over the world!!!!! I still get in my messes, but I do clean it up now!!!! No longer are my arms frozen at the mere thought of it! It is so nice that Squalor Survivors is ongoing here, as I would have hated to lose you all after ALLLLLL you did for me in 2001!!!! Back when my arms were frozen still from fear! I actually ENJOY housework now! I am in another new house and life is a joy, even though I have plenty of junk bags to go through!!!! I find if I look at my piles as TREASURE CHESTS awaiting discovery, that is more appealing than looking at them as PILES and PILES of what I have NOT done!!! Hey is Celeste still out there!!! ? IF so, I still have the lovely blue blanket you sent me all those years ago!!! XOXOXOOXOX Love to you allllllllll!!!!!! Kimmy xoxooxoxox

Kimmy,
I am so glad you found us and let us know how things are going.
I wasn't Internet savvy enough to find Julie Morganstern's site way back when, but I was a lurker at SS off and on for quite a while before I ever posted, beginning very shortly after it first started. For me, your before and after photos kept me coming back. I want to personally thank you for the courage you showed in posting your photos and sharing your story. I especially loved how you managed to keep your sense of humor through it all. Those photos and words were like a lifeline to me, and I am certain to countless others as well.
I have been clean and not-so-clean off and on for several years now. Each time I get the place clean, my tolerance for the mess is less and my urge to clean kicks in sooner. Slowly bur surely, I am healing; something that would not have happened without you and the Squalor Surviviors.
Thank you!
Onward

Dear Cynthia/Rhoda: Welcome! As you see, you have been greeted by Kimmy ... who made the first post 7 years ago. An unbroken circle of friends inspiring friends. I, too, was amazed to learn that I wasn't the only person like this. Kimmy's photos really helped me see that. (links to her story and photos here: takeonestepatatime.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=355 ) You are not alone. I never thought I could recover from this, but these wonderful people here have helped me tremendously.

Hey is Celeste still out there!!! ? Who??? Yes, dear one, I'm still here. I was so glad to read your update. I've been wondering about you! "Yay" on enjoying the housework! That attitude helps a lot when the messes occur, doesn't it? I like the treasure chest analogy. It makes our dejunking playtime -- and we could all use more fun in our lives. I'm glad you're still enjoying the blue blanket. You know that whenever you wrap yourself up in it, it is really us giving you a hug! Angelique and Koko the Koala still keep bemused watch over my housekeeping. I don't think they understand that I find it mentally cleansing. It clears the cobwebs from my brain. Still hate dusting, though. Maybe I need to think of it as finding the buried treasure of the surface of things! Sorry you had such a horrible time posting on Squalor Survivors on your "Squalorversary". (I can vouch for the fact that you WERE remembered!) The server was down more often than up in the last few months. I think that was one of the reasons Pigpen decided to stop. She simply wasn't up to moving the whole kit-and-caboodle to another server and doing the tinkering to make it work. Thankfully, Missy stepped up and offered us this forum. BlessthisMess and Pigpen are still around. Bless signed up here, but hasn't posted yet. Like all of us here, she has a private message button if you want to leave her a note. Pigpen is LiveJournaling. I know they would both love to hear from you if you are so inclined. For that matter, you can send me a private note too! Just look for the below my avatar on the left. Love ya! Stay in touch!

God bless all of you and thanks so much for letting me know I am not alone Welcome! Fantastic start! New habits can be a pain to establish, but after a while, you don't even think about them anymore. You do them unconsciously with no effort at all. You are well on your way with the garbage removal. I love before and after pictures. Make sure you take the afters too, because when you get discouraged over anything, they help to fortify you. Meanwhile, we'll all be here cheering you on.

Hi Cynthia! What i'd give to be able to stay organized enough to BE the typical "June Cleaver type! Really, that would be so nice. That's how I want things to be. It sounds like you are really taking a step in the right direction, that's so great! =)

Hi Cynthia,
Coming from the UK I don't know who June Cleaver is, but can imagine her being like one of our UK domestic goddesses.
I'm going to post before and after pics of my house too, once I've found the missing pc link lead, cos I'm sure there will be times when I feel I've achieved nothing as there is so much to put right.
Hello to everyone else on this thread too. I'm really grateful that this forum exists for us all to get help and support without judgement.
Look forward to getting to know you all,
DiamondGal.
