There is often people annoyed about the chat timing out. According to the website there is an option to change this with the upgrade. You're right, BecomingClearer. There is. However I'm still wondering if that is only part of the solution. Browsers also have optional logout times if a browser hasn't been active in a while. With all the varying times, I'm wondering if that is a factor in all this. It doesn't make sense that chat would kick some people out after 8 minutes and other people a half hour later. Why the discrepancy? May have to check and see if Addon Chat has any ideas.

I would like the upgrade and be more than happy to donate. The one I would vote for is the 80.00 a year, as this would add many things but most of all the time-out.

I guess I'm *bumpin* this back up. I am interested in paying for a chat upgrade. Celeste was in chat tonight and said that the option that would possibly be best for us costs $128/year. I know that chat has been a life-changing tool for me, so I am more than willing to pitch in money towards the upgrade....any joiners?

We need to collect $125 dollars to make this happen. If we can find twelve people who are willing to pledge $10 to this, we could upgrade chat. (Anything extra can go on account to pay for future chat room subscriptions.) I'll set up a PayPal account to collect the money and get the chat room set up, but we need our twelve financiers first. More philanthropists can mean less money necessary per person, so let me know if you want to commit to this and we'll see what we can do.

NEW question:
One of the original goals was to adjust the "timeout" factor, so we wouldn't lose the thread of conversation by being timed out, logging back in, and being unable to see the scroll of what we'd missed.
However, here's a DIFFERENT phenomenon:
lately we've had more chatters. Sometimes 8-15 people all talking at once. The chatscroll fills up FAST, and clears out ... what I mean is that periodically, the chat erases its own scroll. It's as if its buffer is full or something. This happens only when lots of people are talking fast. (It's not an issue with just a few people talking at a moderate pace). I honestly don't know the technical terminology for this phenomenon, but perhaps Celeste knows what I'm referring to?
So what I'm wondering is ... even if we pay money to fix the timeout issue ... can the other issue I mentioned be resolved?

Your question raises an interesting issue, Lioness.
I've got the upgraded Addon chat room for one of my other forums, so I've had the opportunity to observe it closely.
I've done more investigating and it looks to me that even IF chatters remain logged in, scrolling back will only show a limited amount of the conversation. In other words, you might still miss most of the conversation if you've been off challenging for a while and the chat room is active.
It's not the answer we wanted, but it would still be better than signing in every little bit because we hadn't contributed to the chat room.
I might play with more obscure settings on my other chat room and see if I can increase the chat's memory in any way. For now, assume I can't!
PS Bless you, Scriptikins!

- Thanks, Celeste!
Whatever you can research/discover is most appreciated.
If the issue that I mentioned cannot be remedied, I'll understand.
I've found that trying to read every snippet of conversation keeps me bound to the chair, so that I don't miss anything. In some ways, having the chat-memory clearing itself helps me get out of the chair and move forward. So in some ways, the self-clearing issue is a help and not a problem.
But sometimes, when a chatter is discussing a deeply private urgent problem, it's helpful to not lose the scroll.
So I can see both sides of the issue.

I will also contribute $25.00 for the upgrade. We only need $50 more. Celeste, when you have the paypal account information ready, I'll get that transferred.

Put me in for $25 too.
And I am all set up & ready to go with the Paypal.
Bring it on, woo!
Okay, can someone post (or post a link to) the description of what the $125 tier level is gonna get us?
Also, I am wondering if my screen-saver times me out of Chat when it kicks in. I have mine set to a very short time of non-activity before it goes to screen saver.

The options are here: www.addonchat.com/features.htmlScroll down to bottom of that page to see prices for each column. (From what I read elsewhere on their website, I believe that the prices are annual rates. But I'm not sure.) The prices listed are in United States dollars. Currency converter here: www.xe.com/ucc/-
