I am cleaning two rooms that really haven't been touched since 1995. I managed to move a bookcase from one of those rooms yesterday. Mildew, mildew, mildew! ugh! Keep me in your thoughts!

Way to GO!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BE carefull, wear a mask or breathe through your shirt, make sure you have allergy medicine on hand as mildew causes breathing problems sometimes.
Its so hard to break through somehting that has been put off for a long time and you did it!

Yeah for you!!! And yes, do be careful of mildew, the spores can float around and you end up breathing them in. Not only should you wear a mask but you can kill them off first by spraying bleach water (50/50) on it first and letting the mix do it's job. Of course you can only spray this on surfaces that will not be damaged by it!!!

iguanamamma: I also have a couple of those rooms. I have to first clean the hall that leads to them. You have inspired me to brave the hall and be prepared for mildew. I will remember the tips that others have given you. Congratulations on taking the plunge and do be careful of the mildew.

I put a fan in the window and spray lysol before I begin. So far I have filled two 30 gallon trashcans with junk. I thought that in the worst parts of the room the piles were three feet high. In excavating ( this is truly what I an doing) I discovered that some of the big piles were stuff stuck in laundry baskets years ago. That gave me some hope. Keep the good thoughts coming. I am making progress! Thanks.

"Untouched since 1995" - hmm...that could have another meaning! No wait, there were those four months with Randy three years ago...
hehehe
Onward
(sorry, couldn't resist since my home isn't the only thing I have neglected)

Iguanamamma,
Way To Go! I admit I have many boxes, baskets, piles in my home that have been untouched just as long. One room is so packed I can not even open the door all the way! I look forward to reading your progress reports along the way and getting inspired to take the plunge myself. Thank you for sharing with us!
