wow! you are so YOUNG to be on your own and have to deal with the house and stuff like that! commendable! (sorry about your mum dying ) you write you are not sure about being comfortable in your mother's bed...well i can understand that really well. Is the bed or the room also? Is the mattress still OK? would you feel awkward sleeping on just the mattress? Can you transform the room where your mother was and make it a cat haven? or better, an animal room? just throwing out ideas at you... As to where to start: some say whatever bothers you the very most when you first walk into your place. some say the bathroom, as it is the smallest place, easiest to get done. Some, like FlyLady, recommend the kitchen sink and making your bed. Others will say start with just bagging the junk and boxing the stuff you don't use. keep posting and someone here will cheer you on!

Hello, Kitten! So nice to see you here!
I'm impressed with the amount of progress that you have made. And I think that when you are ready to decide which bed you prefer, it won't be based on "the tides", or a Freecyle ad. The fact that you are thinking about it and mulling it over in your head may mean that you will be ready to take some steps soon...but give it some time!
Is there another family member who would love to have your Grandma's and Mom's bed? Perhaps someone who would cherish it and all the memories it holds?
It was kind of shocking for me to see my initial pics, too. What a mess! I mean, my house is still messy in areas, and I struggle with keeping the mess at bay...but it was so depressing in the beginning!
W00t w00t for kcrazy feline family progress!

Hello, Welcome. It is great that you are thinking about what to do with things. I am sorry about your Mum. So much for some-one so young to deal with. Sigh! You must be a lovely person to be so helpful to animals. I am also a member of ASPCA Online (even though I am in Australia) coz I think it is a great site and they do so much good. I sign all their online petitions. (on that site I am SandraFromOz) I like to start with somewhere that stays clean, say a shelf. It doesn't get messed up and I can look at it and see at least one place that I got and kept clean/tidy. I take before and after photos because it is always a boost to see the difference.

Hey there fellow Buffy fan! (Or is it "Angel' or "Firefly?") Either way - 10 points for me!
I remember you from the old SS board. I'm glad you decided not to have your friend move in. It didn't sound like a situation that would have been good for either of you. I saw many a good friendship in college get ruined by becoming roommates. This way you get to keep your friend and still move at your own pace with your house and reconciling your memories of your mom.
I wish I had some advice to give you about your mom's things. I think you're right to just take your time and I'm impressed at the amount of progress you've made. Yay for no more flies!
Glad to see you again - and, did you know, that Joss Whedon has another show scheduled for the Fall called the "Dollhouse?" It's on Fox and stars Eliza Dukshu (from Buffy fame.) Maybe we can both watch and dish about it - my Buffy friends are few and far between, sigh - most people think I'm just a big nerd...
