I really wonder what happens to everything though. I wish they'd do a "behind the scenes" series. Once they get things cleaned up, everything is GONE. Where did it go, how long did it really take to make it all disappear and how did they do it? There isn't a lot of time spent showing the sorting of the stuff and the decisions and emotional trauma. The before and after really is encouraging though and proof that it can be done. I happen to know a friend of someone who was a team worker on that show. We met at a b-b-q and when i mentioned how messy my place was he told me about the show a bit...until we got side tracked. Basically they ( about 6-10 people) take LOTS and LOTS of boxes and find a nearby place where these can be put in storage. The TV show pays for the first month, (i think that's what he said...) So after they clean everything...-and they have about 6-10 people cleaning, all day long!- the owners have to then decide what to do with the stuff that got put in boxes. They get a brochure -or was it a book?- that helps them keep motivated. They are encouraged to only take in one box at a time and sort through that. He said they have got calls of some people saying: come back, it is all messy again! and they almost did once, but some psychologist on team nixed that. The man estimated it was, on average, about 60-man hours to empty the place and another 60 to get it in shape. So there again, it really is a step-by step process, whether in a team or alone.
