See page 17 of Squalor songs thread for an example. I had to modify to correct a spelling error, and when I did, the ROFL drop down icon changed, but the smileys above each post never did. I have an older puter, but this has not happened to other sibs. What is wrong? 3g PS) I wish ALL icons were on top of the thread boxes like on SS.

I had to modify to correct a spelling error, and when I did, the ROFL drop down icon changed, but the smileys above each post never did. I have an older puter, but this has not happened to other sibs. What is wrong? I added a smiley to the list of emoticons we have. Additional smilies go into the drop down box and that probably caused them all to shuffle a bit. PS) I wish ALL icons were on top of the thread boxes like on SS. It is possible to put all emoticons at the top like the 15 we have, but the ProBoards owners I know who have done so report that it slows down message writing while posters wait for all the graphics to load. Additionally, their refresh rate crawls whenever they preview text in the message area or try to post their message. If you've got a slow connection, that can be extremely discouraging! I think clicking on the 'View all smilies' to your left as you write your message is a better alternative. This compromise is better because it means we can get a lot more emoticons without hurting anyone's connection speed. Sorry, 3g. I know that wasn't the answer you wanted to hear, but it IS the reason why the emoticons are set up as they are.

Oops. Sorry ladies. I didn't dig to the root of the problem. I had recently been playing with the code and assumed it had something to do with that. Well, that's what I get for making an assumption. Hee-haw!
Bear with me while I ask questions.
3g, when you are composing messages do you see the list of option boxes underneath the text composition box? Are you leaving the option box "If this box is checked, smiley emoticons will be disabled in your message." unchecked? How about when you go back to modify that same message? (You can experiment here, if you like)

I have never clicked on "disable emoticons." I will show you what happens here. <<< These do not change. Only the emoticons in the box change. I will show you now. #gaah# #rofl-1# 3g

Thanks, 3g. I appreciate answers! It helps mightily.
Next questions:
Do you select the smiley from the box showing them all or from the dropdown box?
Do you use the preview button to see your posts before you submit them?
And which browser do you use? Internet Explorer? Firefox? Safari? Opera? Chrome?
Which version? (You'll find that under "About" on your browsers menu bar, generally. Another hiding place might be "Help".)
Thanks mucho! (I know I'm throwing a lot of questions at you. I apologize.)

My browser for this test is IE 6.0.2900.5512.etc. First post at 7:17 am June 24, 2009. Everything looks fine. ETA: In fact, the quote from your post above, shows the smilies working in my post, although they don't in your's above. Interesting, Yes? Modified at 7:20 am June 24, 2009. No changes. I have not tried this in another browser as yet.

I use Internet Explorer 6.0 version. I rarely use the Select Smiley, but I think it would have the same results. I seem to have issues that nobody else does in a LOT of areas. Like I can't use Colors, Fonts, ect. When I do it also comes out in code. << See what I mean? 3g PS. I just tried the scream from "Select Smiley" 3g

Celeste, it came out ok for you, but you aren't on my PC, and apparently that's the issue. I need a new Puter, I guess. Also, it only happens when I modify. I also can't get any color or change my font. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. 3g

Do you highlight the phrase you want to change before you hit the color or font button? By the way, I've seen this happen with another poster, but on a different ProBoards forum, so you aren't totally alone!

No I don't highlight the phrase. I just select the color I want to post in as well as the font, and it stays the same boring black with a small font. I am tired of this....arrgh! 3g
