Trying to find my $$$ in my bag last night almost drove me to frustration! My bag is portable squalor. Anyone else's bag the same?

I avoid this by not bothering with one. I carry my wallet and keys in my pocket like the Good Lord intended.

Hi, I'm with Mimi. Icarry my credit cards, cash and license in my pocket. When I had a purse things would collect in there and filter down to the bottom. Also I left it places too many times and was always fortunate to get it back. Not taking any more chances.

I had a cluttered purse for years ... the solution I found for purse decluttering is carrying a very small purse. Mine is big enough for cash/credit cards, keys, cell phone, and lip gloss. Works great for me -- the small size staves off cluttering!

oh, God! those people who clear out and reorganize their handbags EVERY DAY!
That's how I know they are from a different galaxy. It is unimaginable to me.

I carry my life in my purse. I have a bright red wallet so I can find it easily, but that doesn't actually work. It's not portable squalor, but there's a LOT of stuff in there... ~Mouse

Check on handbag squalor.
An ongoing family joke is that I tote bricks around. It's actually a bottle of sunscreen, asthma inhaler, wallet with quarters for parking meters and gumball machines, keys, and snacks for movie theater so we don't have to pay $5 for a candy bar.
I'm being somewhat silly--we do joke about the weight of my purse, not sure I could make it lighter at this point. I used to carry a *backpack* as a purse--this was before I had a child too!

Yes, I like the pockets system for valuables and small bag does help. Most frequently used large bag (if I could locate it right now, it's under something or other) I know is a microcosm of squalor, better not emptied out as would only add to the greater squalor. Then there's the embarrassing number of empty handbags (used sometimes) - "lost" items occasionally to be found in those! A proper handbag audit would be interesting - could be a challenge...

Cleaning out my bag was my first step to start to declutter my house.I too,got frustrated & just couldn't take it anymore w/the messy bag.I am retraining myself to bring purse in from car each time & hang on hall tree.Just this small thing is hard for me to do.I need to train myself about everything.gg

I have also went to the smaller handbag as the solution. I even own a couple of clutches, not that I have used one since my wedding.
And I rarely change purses. When I travel, I change purses, but for around home, it's the same one for at least a year or three.
My purse is so compact, it's easy to find what I'm looking for unless I removed it and did not replace it. A couple of weeks ago, we went to Chicago, so I took 3 or 4 things out of my purse and put them in my fanny pack & forgot to put some back in purse when I got home. The next day I went to use my nail file and couldn't find it because I hadn't put it back in my purse.
It's back now & all is well.

I like really small purses to avoid carrying everything and the kitchen sink. I either use an organizer purse or a fanny pack. I will have my ID, bills and coins, credit and debit cards, a pen and pencil, checkbook and that is just about it. May be the only place where my stuff is organized .

My handbags are now proudly listed on Still's Zero Levels of Squalor Area thread. Except........that I am on vacation and everyone is using my big purse as a carryall. including me.

long.............
I used to carry a purse and satchel that carried just about everything I could possibly need at a job (I was a free-lance bookkeeper, working in many offices). Everything was always a mess; receipts mixed in with money; scraps of papers, notes. My key-ring had keys for two cars and multiple homes/offices. Ratty wallet and change purse. I carried all kinds of supplies everywhere: *Food. *Medicine. *Extra underwear. *Sanitary supplies. *Day-timer that was HUMUNGOUS to record all the craziness of my life.
The thing that was the MOST Absolutely crazy: this purse felt like carrying BRICKS around, expecially as I was on the subway all the time. Maybe one of the reasons my back-neck-shoulders are permanently damaged now: muscle spasms and pain galore.
Since giving up my business (except for family work) 5 years ago, I have done some work to reduce my purse to some kind of manageable load. I have also given up almost completely on the LeSportsac ultra-practical indistructible one-single-purse for every single day. Today, this is a symbol of my slavery to my job, and the erosion of any kind of good self-care.
*Recently I have bought lots of new purses, many quite glam, some 'gently used' on e-bay. Also in stores and on trips. Big names (Prada, D & G, Bottega Veneta, Longchamps) as well as unknown local designers.
*I threw out, gave away, donated, re-gifted anything that was no longer suitable for any reason whatosever.
*I try to drive more, for health reasons; I never go to work without a car now. NEVER NEVER NEVER.
*I have a couple of very-light-weight purse-lets just for walking
*I keep a basket in the kitchen on my long counter: into which I empty my purse all the time: so that I can take another purse the next day. This has been a conscious re-training over the last 2 years.
*My former purse PROBLEMS were directly related to the stresses of my life, including my unhealthy devotion to WORK at the expense of a better balance in my life.

Mine is constantly a wreck-I am self employed and therefore save every reciept. HUMPH> They are the bane of my existance. I cull the herd every few days and I have piles of crumpled wadded papers. Not neatly stored in a wallet for me, no sir!
