I dove right into posting about me working to declutter and clean my apartment. I never made it here.
I'll keep it short.
I'm American but I live abroad in Asia. I won't say specifically where simply because I've got this huge fear that someone will find out I've got a problem with squalor (although, I'm even starting to talk about it little by little with friends...I just don't think they can conceive of the mess I'm living with though.)
I've lived abroad for a few years now. I've got a great cat who is 18 years old (yep, 18). I'm single, never married but I'm starting to look. I dealt with a really bad heartbreak about 3 years ago and was simultaneously dealing with a thyroid disorder. My moods were all over. I felt abandoned and I was just very sad. I got myself to work and school, but that was about it.
Anyway, I've turned things around. I'm working on getting my apartment as well as myself back in shape. I joined this board when I went to SS to post and saw the board had closed.
I'm glad to see that people kept it going. It's really a Godsend for me since.

I need to communicate and I realized I'd managed to isolate myself way too much. Online forums is a way to help me with that. Being here, of course, is just great because for so long I felt like I was alone with this problem, but I'm not. I'm working through it and I'm glad to be in a place where I honestly feel safe. Too many times I've seen threads where someone is complaining about how dirty someone's place is and I don't ever want to talk about my issues there. I'm glad this forum is here. I sure do. |

hi packusratus, i have seen you working on the boards! now i can say formally, welcome! thanks for giving us hope with your story. i agree with you about online forums. it's safe here. i'm among friends, people who are going through similar or have, and know....that makes all the difference! looking forward to seeing you on listzilla again!

Hi Packusratus,  , I luv your nick, I have the same fear being from a small city, but I try to keep personal details very general. Recently, the media here tore into this very unfortunate woman, on her own with twelve kids, because her house was in squalor, even though her kids went to school, were clean and tidy, neither her nor her kids had problems with crime, drugs, alcohol, gambling, debts or anything. She was also being helped at the time by social services, so she was doing all the right things. She just was overwhelmed by 12 kids! I rang a radio talkback station and really ripped into the media about it all and I wasn't the only one so there are understanding people out there. I just don't know which people are the ones!  Well done on cleaning the apartment and on the 18 year old cat!  |
