"Letting go doesn't mean we don't care. Letting go doesn't mean we shut down. Letting go means we stop trying to force outcomes and make people behave. It means we give up resistance to the way things are, at least for the moment. It means we stop trying to do the impossible, controlling that which we cannot, and instead, focus on what is possible."--Unknown

"Letting go doesn't mean we don't care. Letting go doesn't mean we shut down. Letting go means we stop trying to force outcomes and make people behave. It means we give up resistance to the way things are, for the moment. It means we stop trying to do the impossible -- controlling that which we cannot -- and instead, focus on what is possible -- which usually means taking care of ourselves. And we do this in gentleness, kindness, and love, as much as possible."
-- Melodie Beattie
from the book "More Language of Letting Go: 366 more daily meditations" (from the reading for January 13th) Hazelden Press
I like the last line of the quote. "And we do this in gentleness, kindness, and love, as much as possible."-

Hi Lioness! Thank you so much for giving the proper attribution for that quote. I like for the right people to get credit for what they write, especially when they write something especially meaningful. And I'm with you--I really like the line about "gentleness, kindness, and love," too.

"Hope doesn't come from calculating whether the good news is winning out over the bad. It's simply a choice to take action.”--Anna LappeIf you're like me--and I know quite a few of you are--you probably spend a lot more time worrying than you should. Some of us worry only about the big things like money, jobs, family, etc., while some of us worry about the small stuff like "Did the cat just throw up under the couch?" or "Why does my son keep losing the exact same shoe over and over?" If you come from a long line of professional worriers like I do, I can worry about the big things and the small stuff all at the same time. But that's really not the kind of multi-tasking we should be doing.
If we spent as much time working on our problems as we do worrying about them, there's no telling what we could accomplish. So this month's quotes are about worry versus action--and you can decide which one gets you closer to a clean and comfortable home. "I never worry about action, but only inaction."--Winston Churchill"Action is the antidote to despair."--Joan Baez“The reason why worry kills more people than work is that more people worry than work.”--Robert Frost"Be mindful of the link between action and outcome. Ask yourself 'If I repeat today's action 365 times, will I be where I want to be in a year?'"--Roz Savage, the first woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean

"Motivation follows action"
Original quote:
"Motivation does not come first, action does! You have to prime the pump. Then you will begin to get motivated, and the fluids will flow spontaneously.
Individuals who procrastinate frequently confuse motivation and action. You foolishly wait until you feel in the mood to do something. Since you don't feel like doing it, you automatically put it off.
Your error is your belief that motivation comes first, and then leads to activation and success. But it is usually the other way around; action must come first, and the motivation comes later on."
-- David Burns -- "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy"

Lioness, thank you for helping to start this month's quotes with such a wonderful example. I certainly know it's true for me--I rarely feel motivated to do certain things until I actually start to do them. Seashell, I'm so glad you were able to find inspiration in the great quote contributed by MessyMimi. We must never be afraid to start again...
