How far back in time should I keep tax records - I still have ones from the 1990s - so I need to know how many years to keep when I move. Anyone know?

Most experts say to keep 6 years of tax records, as the IRS can only go back that far in most circumstances.
I hope this helps.

The IRS can go back three to seven years on most returns, so keep records for seven years. But they can go back forever if they suspect fraud. I can find my federal returns back to 1988. Time to let them go, huh?

I thought as much - looks like the 1990 decade can go into the trash then when I move.
