Hello friends: I just did a giant purge of my art supplies and sold 8 21gallon bins at a community yard sale. Today, i realized i'd gotten rid of ALL my cardstock and a lot of my stamps that were about 20yrs old. Now i am having panic attacks and am almost ready to cry.
Can anyone talk me off the ledge???

I'm not sure exactly what to say because I have never had to let go of things that i am very attached to (I don't get attached). I'm sure whoever posts next will have a better thing to say to help you. I just wanted to let you know that I feel for you, I'm sorry about the anxiety, and I hope it gets better for you.

Ok, Beanie: here goes, so listen up..........
*Something in your head initially wanted to get rid of those items. Did you not use them very much lately? Did they look a bit 'dated'? Are you drawn to different tools and techniques? Try to remember your original thought processes, and HANG ONTO THEM.
*Crafts, cardmaking, sculpture, painting, collage: these and every other art form can be made so much more intensely creative if you are now FORCED to 'look around' for tools and supplies. I am NOT JOKING. I went to a major and expensive Scrapbooking Weekend [3 days] and FORGOT my tool SUITCASE at home. Several of the participants ENVIED ME, as I was forced to really dig deep into myself in order to DO THINGS.
*There are sales and specials on e-bay. If you have the money, you can replace lots of stuff fairly cheaply. Example from my own life: on Xmas day, I bought on e-bay 200 sheets of assorted name-brand papers for about $75, including excellent cardstock. This is less than half the going rate. Even after tossing the unsuitable, I still ended up with a huge amount of stuff, for little money and NO WORK!
*Today I went to a store holding a 30-75% off 'reno sale'. I bought some truly excellent material that was NEW TO ME: very heavily discounted. There are sales in YOUR LOCAL STORES TOO! Watch for them.
*Maybe you were BORED with your old stuff. Is this hard to admit ? Even the most creative genius needs NEW challenges.
Finally: try to remember that a LOT OF PEOPLE are now going to be happily creating using the supplies that you so generously passed along. Kids. Families. Teachers. Whoever: you did a very kind thing.
hope this helps

I purged 30 years of art tools and supplies myself, 3 years ago. It seems difficult, but it's really just stuff. I donated mine to goodwill. I like knowing that some girl is probably creating great art with those supplies. I didn't do anything with the supplies for years, just packed and moved them from coast to coast 3 times, just looking at them made me feel guilty. After I donated them, I never had a need for any of them, so didn't have to re-purchase any of them.
Enjoy the cash you netted at the yard sale. Put the cash into savings, that will make you feel more secure. Every girl should have an emergency fund!

Take deep breaths - you did good - if you had the stuff for 20 years - then you didn't use it - and probably never would have - so now you have opened up space mentally and physically for something brand new to come into your life!
