It really doesn't take a lot of doing. There are some people (addresses) who've written me that I'm not purging yet, like my dad. I haven't spoken to him in several months, but I might be really upset with myself someday if I dump all of the pleasant emails. I'm not willing to give up emails from my husband either. Ditto my mom. I'm BAD about the "What if...?" thing. These are the equivalent of old-fashioned letters, you know?

So the messages WERE in your inbox? I'm confused... Then why did you need a special program to find them? Doesn't your email program tell you how many messages you have saved? Oh well, doesn't matter, good that you're getting rid of them. I have several saved from book groups that I haven't read yet, and I'm getting ready to purge some without reading because I can't keep up. Diane

Diane, I have 14 different email addresses, some of which are pretty active. This application checks all of my email addresses at the same time and signals me when anything new shows up. It's a huge time saver, and helps me keep the addresses organized. The problem is that it goes through, and shows, all of the old messages in those addresses too, read and unread, and the memory of all that was locking up the application. I don't know how much memory the actual emails take up, but the application seems to be able to only handle about 18,000 of my emails. Thus the big purge.

in my hotmail account I have 128,870 messages, going back to 2002. I have the same problem with email that I have around the house. Maybe I am on too many lists too, can't even get them all read. I figure when I have time I will go back and read them I guess, yeah right. But still can't delete them. What application is that Misc? Maybe I need one like that too.

I delete every day that I am on the computer--- and sometimes I do not get to read the emails- just check the addresses--- I learned a hard way as the old computer did have memory like the laptop and one day it just froze up and it cost me money to have it fixed and it was just keeping too much stuff in the memory--- some of those emails from incredible etc can take a lot of memory due to pictures and music - even when email is closed---hugs meme

MiSC, I just purged over a thousand (no where near what you are faced with) a bit over a week ago. It actually went very quickly using this method:
First, I started with the most recently received emails and looked for the ones I knew were junk, not worth reading and identified the senders.
Next, I used the link from that email to unsubscribe if there was one.
Then, using the search feature in my email account, I found everything from tha particular sender and checked the box that selects all of them, and voila, mass deletion.
This mass deletion method removes known unwanted emails very quickly.
I did this over and over again all day long and still managed to maintain my house and do my 10,000 + steps per day as I took breaks in between.
You may not be able to dedicate most of a day to this project because of your family situation (I have only myself here most of the day and no children in my home.) But this method can speed up the process.
Eventually I got to the important senders, the ones I want to hear from. I actually left their emails to the last, because I knew I would want to read them, and I did read them. Then I had not one unread email and not one unwanted email. I felt so good about that, because I had been avoiding my email account due to the excessive amounts of unwanted email.
ETA:
I also moved several emails to the junk folder, which tells my email program that all email from this sender is junk and thats where they will go from now on. The won't even show up in my inbox. My junk folder is deleted automatically.

Work, home or enlarging, reducing or selling body parts I will hear from emailers who care within the year. Sort the stuff by date and delete it in blocks. Or sort it by source and delete every gmail. Make it gone.
If it is yours then let it go and it will reply back to you. Now then doll, stop posting about it and dump the e-junk already.
