the things I am seeing when getting ready for my garage sale is that I live in a dust bowl! Everything is covered with silty dust...everything ....this place is covered with dust. I have to dust stuff off for the sale.... the coffee maker is covered in dust. I want to sell cups of coffee at the sale since it is early morning and I have loads of coffee and a good taste for the money I feel it can earn me at $.50 cup.... I bought 12 oz cups last night at wallyworld, 48 of them. I may even go ahead and give away cups from my cabinets first thing in the morning with their coffee as an earlybird treat. I have tons of not needed coffee cups.
On side note I just had to get up to go the toilet and my back is screaming in pain again this morning. I have been busy here since getting home around three AM...it is now 6am. I just took my pain meds to help with this pain. Since I plan now to sleep for the morning and early afternoon I hope when I wake it is alot better.

Hi BTT I hadn't thought of my house as a dust bowl, but now that you mention it, I think it is more of a dust and fur bowl. It's no wonder that my allergies continue to kick me in the butt. I like your idea of having coffee available for your garage sale. And, giving away some of the cups you have as an early bird special is a great way to declutter! I hope that your back feels better and you make it through the day with no problems.

Btt, my place is very dusty too, and I always just thought of myself as someone who hates to dust. Actually, as I'm clearing some things away, it's really hitting home that the only reason I hate to dust is because all the stuff makes it so hard to do. When dusting one surface means moving all the piles of "things" around, then dusting the surface, then dusting the "things" before you put them back--no wonder I don't want to dust. Same thing is true of sweeping--now that my floors are SO much clearer, I find myself sweeping far more often--it's actually possible to do it!
There was a time when I thought there was something about the building I was living in that generated more dust than the average home--but it just was that I resisted dusting so it built up to noticeable levels.
So now I'm between two minds about it--it still feels like a waste to dust when it'll just get dusty again, but when I DO dust, the clear, clean surfaces are very appealing, even if they don't last long. So, another thing to get in the habit of doing, I guess. I'm realizing it's another reason to get rid of the extra stuff, fewer dust magnets!

wanted to add that I have made a huge dent in the basement squalor. I have dog poo on the floor there and it is still there but I pulled some gross things that had gotten wet out when looking for a tool I needed and decided these things need to go....so I moved them to a place where the next step is the trash can outside. I plan to make those things go away tonight while I work. The poo included. Shep is responsible for those. I guess that is what level three or four? it is small amount and hard as rocks. just have not had the umph to pick it up and toss it into trash as the can is overflowing down there next to the dryer with lint and trash.

You have my sympathy on the dust. This place generates the stuff. I also get up enough cat hair on a regular basis to knit a litter of kittens if I ever needed on.
I hope your back feels better and your sale goes well.

I brought out a dining room chair for my mom to sit in when she came and had to dust every surface of it and there are three more inside waiting for more dusting work....gosh I hate to dust!

consider it a science experiment and see how much dust you can grow-- - that is what I do and some times the dust even matches my furniture---

Bust all that dust in stages. First dry. Then wet. For dry use a vacuum and/or an electrostatic duster (Target/Walmart item) first. Do empty the vacuum canister or change bags often and do bang the duster out every fifth pass or so -- I use my bathtub for this but if you have an outside area you can get rid of dust in that is better. After you have gotten up all you can with dry methods go to the furniture cleaners and other wet stuff.
Do the dusting wet without removing what you can with dry methods and you will have a nice muddy smear. And I type this from experience!
