Checking your e mail at 5:45 a.m. to see that one of your landlords is in town (our landlords live in AK currently - he is commander of a Coast Guard vessel.) The landlord husband wants to stop by and check on the house - I am assuming it will be this weekend - he is military, and has a temper...we have never met him in person, only spoke on the phone - and I am a bit mortified right now! The house isn't super-bad - but it certainly isn't landlord clean. I have one day - today - to get everything shipshape. One awesome thing is that DH took out this massive pile(s) of magazines I had set to get rid of, that have been sitting in the same place in the basement for a year. Gonna concentrate on dust- floors - anything they own...I had hoped to enjoy a bit of rest and relaxation, as I am coming off a punishing two weeks of working almost everyday - I think I might get a day off sometime next spring - after I get the masters degree I am so tired of this panic when visitors come - it has always been this way! I will probably pop into chat for extra motivation

Remember, you will get more done if you take breaks, eat healthfully, and drink your water.
You can do this. And someday, when you have built the habits of doing a little each day, you won't ever have to do it again. (That's what I keep telling myself, too.)

Thanks for the nice words mimi and dragon I made nice progress today and my SD is washing her bedding now - she even rearranged her furniture! I have been at the de-cluttering for a long, long time - so this is time it is better than it has been in the past - its not perfect- nor will it ever be - but the house smells nice and the wood floors have a nice sheen now - when I wrote my post this morning it was dust bunny central (and these bunnies were more like tarantulas!) I just need to remember to try to maintain as I go - then things are never so out of control that I totally panic like the old days. I spoke to our landlord on the phone for a very long time today and he was just lovely. He kept on thanking us for being good tenants and how he and his wife wanted us to stay for a long time - hopefully, he will be happy with what he sees tomorrow

Dear Zen,
So often, we do a frenzied clean, crash and burn, don't maintain, then wonder how the mess grew back. Just plain cleaning up after ourselves, like we were taught in kindergarden, would go a long way toward helping any of us.
My sympathy on the killer dust bunnies. Our house manufactures them. I sweep up enough cat hair every month to knit a litter of kittens (if I ever needed another, which we don't!).
Great work, and continued good luck with the landlord.

Landlord was set to visit yesterday around 2:00 p.m. - he said he would call DH to confirm. Well he never called, and never showed up! At first I was a bit cranky - as I busted my hump cleaning like a nut all day Friday. But now i feel better - loving how much the hard work has made our little bungalow shine.
I am going to do my best to keep up with my maintaining - the floors and the mail are two big areas that can get away from me.

I know what you mean...sometimes I have nearly had a nervous breakdown cleaning and tidying before the inlaws are expected....and yet afterwards I have thought I was glad that I had the pressure to get it done, because then we could also enjoy the cleanliness, in other words it was not just for them!
