Hello all, I'm considering posting some pix, it seems the best way to post them is to use photobucket, but I am a bit apprehensive to use that site for these...
Has anyone here had any negative experiences using photobucket?
I hope this is OK to here post in the General forum, as it still relates to trying to desqualor (indirectly.) Thanks!

I use Photobucket extensively, both free and paid accounts.
If you keep your albums private, then the only pictures anyone can find are the ones you post somewhere.
And I highly recommend you keep your albums private so this is the case. Otherwise, your photos are included in Google's photo search among others and people can browse through your album at will, and very quickly use up your bandwidth which will either cause you to have to pay for an account, or cause your account to be turned off for the rest of the month so your photos don't show. The next month, they'd come back on until your bandwidth was used again. Go private, always. All you do is check the box to keep your albums private, no biggee.
If you want someone to be able to see one of your albums or all of them, like a family member, you can create a special login and password for them that you can disable at will.
There are tags below each photo that you can easily copy if you want to send someone a direct link to a photo, or if you want to post the photo at a board like this (that uses the brackets [ and ] tags) or one that uses the < and > tags. It's very simple to use.
Also, hotlinking can happen no matter how you post a picture, not just with Photobucket. Photobucket and other services--any of them--don't know who's posting the photo and cannot prevent that. So if you're worrried about someone findign one photo you post and posting it elsewhere, the only way to prevent that is to never post a picture anywhere, ever.
You can look to see where the views of your picture are coming from, if you're worried about it. And if you see that people are viewing your picture on some board you're nota member of, you can just move the picture to another album, rename it or whatever, so they can't see it anymore.
Don't worry about paying for an album unless you plan to upload by FTP or post TONS of pictures or you just feel like having a Pro account. It's not necessary for basic use.

Thank you for the extensive info, Lioness... as usual! Good to know about the bandwidth thing, and the deactivation issues. And thanks clutterfree... I most definitely wanted to make the account private, but for now can only use my cellphone, and the mobile photobucket doesn't have the private option... I guess I will just wait until I get a new PC. A while back I had inadvertantly deleted the ms media photo viewer from the applications, so I can't upload photos to photobucket from the PC, for a private account. I thought it was just a shortcut I was deleting, but the whole application went bye-bye. I've forgotten how to reinstall from MSDOS (not that I could find the setup discs anyway...) This computer is so old, I just need a whole new system, rather than reinstall any software. If I post the pix directly from the phone to each post to the board, the photo is automatically rotated sideways, b/c of the vertically elongated size of it, and I can't resize or edit it on the phone... so I am just SOL, I guess!
Maybe I will just post them temporarily from the mobile photobucket, then delete and redo them to private, once I get my new PC system.
Thanks again - you've both helped alot!

Sheesh.. once again.. way too much for me to absorb. I really miss the basic capability on the old site of cutting and pasting. So simple and unfettered. *sigh*

Photobucket's easy. Simple to set up an account, easy to set the album(s) to private. It is sometimes a little on slow side to upload, especially at certain times of day, but that's the free version. It might be faster if you pay for the premium version.
For a free site, it has decent photo editing tools, though nowhere near as good as Photoshop's if you are accustomed to that.
I've never had any problems with Photobucket.
