I found this on www.Rubbermaid.com and thought it was an interesting fact to ponder. So, does this mean that most of society are pack rats? The market for home organization products in the United States has grown at a rapid pace over the last five years, exceeding the growth rate of most other house wares categories. (Driving this growth has been American consumers’ penchant for purchasing a great deal of “stuff,” which has led to clutter-filled houses.) (Source:

My MILs home always looked clean and clutter free. After she died, we readied her house to be sold. we looked in a spare bed room, and there was ALL HER CLUTTER. Clothing she hadn't worn in years, old bills (heating bills back to the 1950's, all in a box), old unneeded documents (passports belonging to dead people, bank books for closed accounts.) We chucked 99 per cent of it. It was amazing how much stuff she had crowded into that one little room. As one daughter said "She never threw anything out!" But she did vacuum every day and got upset if you walked on her rugs with shoes on! .
