It's a summer show on NBC and she helps families with weight, clutter, and other issues. She actually moves in with the family for a week.
The show I saw was a single mom with two kids. She lost her husband to a massive heart attack 5 years ago and she was overweight, too. She also had clutter issues and her 12 year old daughter resented that she was put on the level of a "co-parent" to her younger brother. At the end of the week they all made changes to their diet and lifestyle. In five more weeks the mom lost 32 pounds and participated in her very first 5K run.
I just wondered if anyone else is watching it and what they thought.

I posted about this it was the Deb episode. I really related to Deb - she had completely shut down in many ways - been there and done that and sometimes still do it.

in five weeks she ran a 5 K? doesn't sound realistic to me.

And lost 6.4 pounds per week. These shows promote really dangerous weight loss.
Unless you are extremely overweight, you will not lose more than ~2 lbs of fat per week. The rest of the loss is water and lean mass, which is bad.
I feel like the Biggest Loser and its ilk teaches people to crash diet.

Jillian had her in intense exercise and she mostly walked the 5k - bad knee - but she did it. I agree it was probably too much too fast - but that is what some of these shows do.

that is just a tad over 3 miles and with that short of training can be done if no health concerns-- I can do almost that when I walk down town but certainly would not run--- if u use one of those little step counters you would be surprised how much you walk in a day --- our steps are usually bigger that one foot--- I think she should be very proud to change her life style and hoping that it will last when her 15 minutes of fame are over-- that trick is to continue on ones own--after the training-- one thing these folks do have is good medical attention before and during the shows--- I do not care too much for Jillian but she is waking up the country to the fact that people are sick and die-ing due to over eating and lack of exercise --- sometimes we clutter our bodies and decluttering them is hard as every where one goes is food- and perhaps if there were more Jillians williing to educate and encourage and push our kids would not be growing up obese-- hugs Meme

Yeah, the show I mentioned was the single mom named Deb.
She was examined by a doctor before Jillian came to their home. He told her the truth that she was at very high risk for a heart attack and complications from diabetes.
Her boss had lost 30 pounds and he and his co-workers ran three days a week. Deb was encouraged to join them and along with lifestyle changes in her eating, it's pretty realistic she was able to run/walk a 5K.
I'm VERY glad Jillian wasn't my trainer in Cardiac Rehab! I can't handle people yelling at me, even when I do deserve it, so that approach wouldn't work for me. I'm the type of person who will try to do what they tell me and getting encouragement motivates me to keep going!
But my cardiologist DOES gripe at people when they won't do what he tells them. He'll say, "How in the hell can I treat you when you won't stop smoking or eating high-fat foods?" But when I gained two pounds even though I did everything he said, (I was in tears for fear he'd yell at me, too) he put his arm around me and said, "I know you're trying, honey. Just stick with it and the weight will eventually come off."
And guess what? This morning I weighed 214.8 pounds -- that's 11.2 pounds from mid-December! I'm certainly not starving myself or killing myself in the gym! I'm supposed to lose 20 pounds by August (he challenged me in February to do this) and even if I don't make exactly 20 pounds, I'm going in the right direction and I know he'll be pleased!

Good for you! I know just dropping soda and sugar is going to get me back on track weight wise. If it wasn't so darn hot here I could walk more like I did last summer - but the heat is about unbearable and even working out inside isn't too pleasant with the humidity so high.

A new episode comes on tonight - and I think from the previews this is the one with lots of stuff in her home to purge.

I found a way to lose weight really fast. I was engaged and my fiance dumped me. I toltally lost all will to eat. I ate nothing and was losing one pound a day. Do I recommend this method? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I have been happy and healthy losing no more than one pound a week.. But that's 52 pounds in a year, and safe!

I lost 40 pounds in about 6 weeks after my divorce many years ago - but I was really sick from that. I simply could not eat at all.
I have so much more energy since I gave up the soda and most sugar - still having the cravings however.
Look forward to Jillians show tonight.
