Happy Father's Day to you Dads. Happy Father's Day to you Moms. Happy Father's Day to you Children of parents.
If you are a mother and have a son who is a father. If you are a sister and have a brother who is a father. If your own father is still alive and you maintain contact. If you know a father whom you admire. If your husband is a father.
Please help him enjoy his Father's Day by doing something special for him. If he lives in your home, clean something for him, laundry, the dishes, his chair, his glasses, something. Or tidy up an area that his eyes fall upon today. Or do some yard work with him, if that is his inclination.
If he doesn't live with you, call him or visit him and tell him what it is that you admire about him. Share a fond memory you have of him or some attribute of his that you find remarkable.
Or make sure your own children call their father today, even if you are long divorced or never married to him. Even if the parting was uncomfortable, give your kids the gift of a father by reminding them to give him a call. Or if that's not possible, to call their Grandfather and wish him a Hapy Father's Day.
If none of this is possible, visit his final resting place and say a few loving words in memorium, leave a flower, thank him for giving you life. And if you are too far away for that, give him a moment of silent reflection and thank the universe or the higher power of your choice for the lessons you have learned and the guidance you have recieved.

For my son, whom I am staying with to help with granddaughter this month while her mom is at the World Cup, I will:
Do the dishes, tidy the sewing area which is in the dining room and perhaps a bit of an eyesore to him, help granddaughter give him his gifts, which we already bought. I will mop the kitchen floor before he gets up. I'll encourage granddaughter to help make him a meal.
For my husband: I helped granddaughter choose a card and mail it several days ago. I'll call him and talk to him today & give granddaugter the phone so he can speak with her, too.
For my brothers: I'll send text messages and/or phone those with whom I maintain contact (one is unreachable).
For my Dad, I have remembered him fondly and thanked him in my heart and mind for being the father that he was, for all the memories, for all the love, for all the care and guidance. In memorium to my dad, I will discard something I brought with me on this trip (since I am not at home and cannot look through much else). My dad was diligent at regular clearing out of excess stuff, so doing this in his honor is very appropriate.

Today is actually my father's birthday, as well as being Father's Day. He has been gone a long time. He taught me to crack eggs -- I do it with a fork, like a boy -- and to thread a needle. and to whistle.

What wonderful memories, Hopehope. My younger son's birthday occassionally falls on fathers day, but not this year. I love the way you pay tribute to your dad for teaching you to crack eggs, thread a needle and whislte.
