I have four black cats, three of them long-hairs. For years I've fought with cat hairs on the carpet and upholstery. Vacuuming removed very little. I tried a plastic brush and something that looks a bit like a windscreen scraper. Both were effective, but exhausting to use because they needed a lot of pressure on them. I'd do a square foot or so and have to give up. Today, I found a solution that is easy and very effective. A cat grooming brush, passed lightly over the carpet or furniture picks up every bit of hair. The brush I mean is the sort that has angled, very thin, needle-like wire bristles (but thinner than most needles). It's called a slicker in many places. I am so thrilled! I've been going all round the house with it First, I tackled bits on a clean carpet that had regained some clumps of hair. However, I've just now cleaned the visible parts of the bedroom carpet (only the visible bits because I've got other issues in that room as well, ). That carpet hadn't been touched for about 2 years. It's now a couple of shades lighter with all the hairs gone

I wonder if it works on human hair? That used to be my problem. My hair all over my carpet.
Actually it's great to read about an easy way to get the pet hair up off the carpet. I bought one of those plastic long handled brushes for pet hair (to use to get up my hair from the carpet, actually), but my husband broke the handle before I could even use it on the carpet. I was so upset about that, I didn't even replace it.
Well, I thought I'd go see if the dog brush would get the dog hairs off the carpet, but it didn't work. Too bad. That's okay, though. Son's vacuum cleaner gets all the dog hairs up pretty well. I don't have any pets at home, so I don't need to worry too much about this anymore & my hair is short now, so what ends up on the carpet doesn't clog up my beater brush bar anymore.

As someone who gets up enough cat hair every week to knit myself a litter of kittens (as if I would need them), I thank you very much for the tip!

Oh man! I'd never even thought of that, and I threw away my grooming brush a couple months ago because of how much the cats hated it.
