I'm just not very good at it.
Mr. MiSC and I just spent the better part of an hour looking for my keys. I HAVE to have my keys, because my meds are all locked up and the only key is on my keyring. (Not taking meds = not an option.)
So where were they? At the bottom of a black trash bag where I'd been throwing papers and boxes from the living room.
Why??

Find a pretty bowl or cup to put keys in - or put them on a hook and yes you should have a copy made of that key!

Come on, MiSC. Just because you accidentally tossed your keys into the trash doesn't mean you should not clean up. It just means you weren't paying close attention when you were cleaning up. It may also mean you don't put your keys away when you are finished with them, or that you may need to give them a better home.
Not cleaning up is not an option.

Forget it, Misc. I'm not letting you off the desqualoring hook that easy. Having a snafu or feeling like you're not very good at it does not make you exempt. No 'that's ok, you never have to clean up again' from me, so put it behind you and get back up on that desqualoring horse Fivecat

If you can't make a copy, you might want to obtain a set of bolt cutters, or a hacksaw.

How did you find them? I hope you didn't have to empty out the whole trash bag...

i was helping a friend desqualor & lost my cell phone, she called it and called it and called it. that was where we found it in the bottom of a trash bag. had fallen out of my chest pocket... did you have them in a chest pocket?
(there was not a single clear space to lay it in the house, and 4 very busy fingered children)

Dear MiSC,
Get a lanyard for your keys. Then put a hook somewhere, and get in the habit of putting them there.
It's easy to drop or misplace a small ring of keys, but when there is a lanyard attached, it is harder to set it down and lose track.
It also makes it easier, if you can't step over to the place where you put them away because of a disaster or emergency, you put them around your neck and they aren't going anywhere.

to you my dear friend. I understand this all too well. Sorry you had a set back. I have a key to my lock at work. I had 2. I put one up so I would not lose it. Have no idea where I put it! I swore it was in my jewelry box. But I can't find it in there! Now I have one. I don't keep it on my regular key chain because it is too much to carry around at work. I keep it in my pocket. Just one key. In my pocket. Do you see the problem here? Argghhh, I am forever losing the stupid thing. Once I lost it in the bedroom at the old place. Took 2 days to find it. It was on the floor INSIDE a slipper UNDER my bed. I have no idea how that even happened! I think we need to come up with a new plan for both of us! Maybe a key chain that hooks on our pants? Or can hook on our bra? I bet I won't lose it there! Well knowing me I bet I can. A hook inside the house is a good idea for keeping it when not using it. I keep mine in my work box when I am not working. If I remember to put it in there! Too many times I have found it in the washer....*sigh* So now lets put our heads together and come up with some ideas! We can do this AND get our houses clean and organized!!!

I normally put my keys right on top of the safe when I come in the door, but somehow they got into that black bag this time. I have no idea how. It seems like I would have heard them since there are a number of keys on it to jangle, but I didn't. Just no clue how they got there. Here's a pic of the front of the safe. It's got a handle, but nothing to cut with bolt cutters or anything like that. I could have sworn I'd given Mr. MiSC a copy of the key many years ago, but it's not on his keyring now. I must not have given it to him though, 'cause he wouldn't toss a key without asking me if I knew what it was to. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I just looked up the model online, and look what I found: "How To Pick A SENTRY 1100 SAFE" www.google.com/search?q=sentry+1100+lost+key&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&ie=utf8&oe=utf8

I love the title of your post! Very funny!
My mom has lost her keys in the trash before.
I once lost my keys and had to get my car rekeyed because of it. A month later or so, somebody decided they wanted to read the bible and when they opened it, my original keys were there in the middle, stuck to their big winnie the pooh doll keychain. head smack. I guess god was trying to tell me to read the bible more often??

MiSC, a professional locksmith (not one of the places that just makes duplicate keys like Home Depot or Wal-Mart) should be able to make a copy of that key for you. Our cabinets at work all have these small bizarre keys for these small bizarre locks (I think they ordered these stupid cabinets from Uzbekistan or some other country not known for its cabinetry : and of course, one day someone finally lost one. We found it after literally tearing the office apart, then we tied the office manager to a chair and demanded some copies be made. She had to take the keys to a professional shop, but they made the copies and the price wasn't prohibitive, even though the keys weren't common. Glad you found the original set!

I have to keep track of keys for my dog walking clients (now those would be embarrassing to lose!). I bought a bunch of those keychains that are a length of plastic coil (like a curly telephone cord) with a hook on the other end. Each person's key has a coil and is labeled with the dog's name on the key. When I walk a dog, I clip the key to my jeans belt loop, and the coil is long enough so the key is inside my pocket. No chance of losing it on a walk, even if it should work it's way out of my pocket it's attached to my belt loop. When I come home they go into my key tin, still on the coil. When I was working and needed to carry work keys I used the same kind--that way I never laid them down on a desk somewhere, they were always attached to me.
