We have a light fixture/ceiling fan in the living room. Over the years the lightbulbs have apparently become cemented into the sockets. The light fixture has tulipy shaped covers over the bulbs but the hole is smaller than the lightbulb so I cannot get the covers off without taking the bulbs out. I have tried squirting around the socket with some WD-40 but still no give. I have thought about taping a paper bag around the cover and breaking the lightbulb to get the cover off, but then I would be stuck with a broken cemented lightbulb in the socket. Any ideas would be appreciated. I think it maybe from all the spraying of fly spray it has just glued itself into the socket??

When I have hard to remove lightbulbs, I wear gloves to take them out. If they are broken bulbs, I use needlenose or small plyers to get them out.
Make sure the fixture is turned off, of course. (And use/wear insulation to prevent possible shock.)
After removing and cleaning it up as much as possible, if the socket seems really difficult to get a new bulb into, I would consider replacing the fixture with a new one.

I thought wd 40 would work - multiple applications and wiggling them. Hm maybe a qtip to clean out the cement stuff?

This has happened to me many time. I just turn the power of and unscrew the metal base of the bulb with needle nose pliers. Worked each and every time.

It the bulb and the fitting are wielded together with heat then the fitting needs replacing.
